Ostomy Outpatient Center


The Ostomy Outpatient Center provides pre- and post-operative care in the following areas:
  • Developing individualized rehabilitative care that is essential to facilitating the patient’s return to a productive lifestyle
  • Assessment and evaluation
  • Teaching and counseling
  • Stoma site marking
  • Selection of appropriate pouching system
  • Care and correction of problems associated with difficult stomas
  • Skin protection and maintenance
  • Dietary management
  • Consultation with a physician as needed

According to the United Ostomy Association of America (UOAA):

  • Nearly 750,000 individuals have an ostomy
  • 75,000 new fecal and urinary ostomies are created annually

An article published in Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare indicated that when a Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) Nurse is involved with the care of the ostomy patient, the patient, family, and overall medical team benefit.
