Broward Health Media Guidelines

Broward Health recognizes the right of the media to report the news and provide coverage of health issues affecting the community. Broward Health strives to be a major resource of healthcare information for the people of this community. To that end, the Corporate Communications Department will make every effort to provide prompt and accurate information to the media.

Hospitals are responsible for protecting the privacy and confidentiality of patients and patient information. Broward Health will release medical information and confirm treatment of patients only as allowed by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 or HIPAA. The regulation is specific as to how and what information may be released in order to safeguard the life, health and legal rights of patients.
