Specialized Services
North Broward Medical Center is Your Headquarters for Neurological Care: At North Broward Medical Center we offer complete neurological services including a neurodiagnostic laboratory, neurosurgery, neuro-radiology treatment, rehabilitation services, research and clinical drug trials, as well as support groups and screenings. We also offer only the best of specialized care from our certified neuroscience registered nurses (CNRNs).
The Neurological Institute was the first comprehensive neurological services facility in Broward and Palm Beach counties. It provides evaluation and treatment for a full range of neurological problems, including stroke, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, sleep disorders, dizziness and balance disorders, and other audiology conditions. Components of the Institute include the Sleep Disorders Center, Dizziness & Balance Center, Memory Disorders Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center and Audiology Center.
National organizations available on-site to patients through the Neurological Institute include: the American’s Parkinson’s Disease Association, the National Stroke Association South Florida Chapter, the Alzheimer's Association and the Brain Injury Association of South Florida.
Adult Level II Trauma Center: The Center is one of two designated trauma units serving the northern two-thirds of Broward County. It features the latest equipment to handle trauma cases 24 hours a day.
Cardiac Services: Services feature a cardiac catheterization laboratory for exploration of heart problems and a chest pain center for rapid evaluation and treatment of heart attacks. Services include a fully equipped stress test lab with Holter monitors that provide 24-hour readout of the patient’s heart function during routine activity. A newly renovated cardiac special care unit opened in December 2002.
Wound Care Center: At the Center for Wound Care, our team follows treatment protocols specifically established for each type of wound. We utilize the most up to date approaches to wound healing and remain current in new scientific advances in wound care.
Comprehensive Cancer Center: Accredited by the American College of Surgeons and affiliated with the Moffitt Cancer Center. The Center offers comprehensive cancer diagnosis and treatment, including inpatient and outpatient care, infusion/chemotherapy, radiation therapy, pain and symptom management, genetic testing and counseling and support groups.
CT/MRI Imaging Services: NBMC offers state-of-the art screening exams including Total Body CT, cardiac calcium scoring, the latest in non-invasive cardiac imaging, PET Scan, virtual colonoscopy, CT angiograms, requiring only an injection, mammography, bone density, MRI and ultrasound as well as diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures.
Diabetes Center: This ADA recognized program provides personalized educational classes to the diabetic client. This comprehensive self-management skills program enables the client to better understand diabetes and how to recognize and prevent complications. In addition, we have a monthly support group and lecture series on various topics of interest to the diabetic client.
Gold Coast Home Health Services: For patients seeking care in the comfort of their own homes, Gold Coast Home Health Services provides a full range of services. Gold Coast’s skilled nursing program includes IV/infusion nursing services, enterostomal therapy services, pediatric care, obstetrical care, psychiatric nursing care, rehabilitation services and pain management.
NBMC Hospice Unit: Hospice provides care for the whole person and his or her family during the stress of critical illness, death and bereavement. The support team includes registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, nutritionists, social workers, chaplains, therapists and bereavement specialists.
Orthopedic Services: Services include a total joint replacement program and outpatient rehabilitation therapy, including physical, occupational and speech therapy. A designated orthopedic unit is also featured.
Rehabilitation Unit: This inpatient unit has received the highest rating by the Commission Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. It provides intensive rehabilitation therapy for those with brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple traumas, orthopedic conditions, amputations, stroke and other neurological conditions. Specialists from many different disciplines – rehabilitation nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech pathologists, psychologists, social workers, recreational therapists and nutritional counselors – work together as a team to meet the unique needs of each patient.

Barbara Ziegler Palliative Care Program: The first of its kind in South Florida, is dedicated to the physical comfort and emotional support of patients with advanced illness regardless of diagnosis, prognosis, medical treatment or resuscitation status. The program includes inpatient, outpatient and home-care alternatives to meet the specific needs of patients and their families.
Emergency Department: The emergency department offers 24-hour care for illness or injury. A stand-out feature of the department is its commitment to staffing of the "triage" area with an emergency physician to handle initial patient assessments. This ensures that every patient is seen by a doctor as quickly as possible. Other department highlights include a Comprehensive Joint Commission Accredited Primary Stroke Center for rapid assessment and intervention.
Express Admissions/First Admit Unit: Conveniently located near the emergency room and the admissions area, this unit has been developed to expedite the direct admission process. Physician orders, nursing assessments and care plans, medications, diagnostic testing, treatments, and consults are quickly expedited.
Same Day Surgery Unit: This unit features 22 private cubicles that provide the outpatient with complete privacy before and after surgery. It offers the latest minimally invasive methods, including microsurgery, laser surgery, arthroscopic surgery, urodynamics and pain management.
