Do you lose your balance or feel dizzy?
Dizziness itself is not a disease, it's a symptom – a warning that you may have a problem. Dizziness is actually a nonspecific term that means different things to different people. Some causes of dizziness and/or balance problems include:
- Inner ear disorders (such as vertigo)
- Stroke
- Head injury
- Neuropathy
Frequent or recurring dizziness can diminish a person's independence and quality of life, as well as increase the risk of falling. The Dizziness and Balance Center is a comprehensive, diagnostic and rehabilitation facility for patients with dizziness and/or balance issues. The Center uses the SMART Balance Master developed for NASA to evaluate and treat patients. Physical therapists who specialize in neurologic and vestibular (inner ear) rehabilitation work one-on-one with patients to establish a program that achieves maximum results. A caregiver/family member training program is also available in conjunction with patient therapy.
