Broward Health has been awarded an Emerald Award Certificate for Pollution Prevention and Recycling, from the Broward County Board of County Commissioners for 2009. Broward Health's CME (Continual Medical Education) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®). The ACCME's mission is the identification, development, and promotion of standards for quality continuing medical education (CME) utilized by physicians in their maintenance of competence and incorporation of new knowledge to improve quality medical care for patients and their communities.
Broward Health's annual Report to the Community received three awards in the 2008 League of American Communications Professionals Annual Report Competition: two platinum awards -- Communicators Choice Worldwide and Communicators Choice Americas -- and a bronze Overall Award. The Broward Health Report was one of more than 3,500 entries from 22 countries.
Broward Health won four "Mark of Excellence" awards at the Florida Society for Healthcare Public Relations & Marketing's (FSHPRM) 43nd annual conference. The awards were for best advertising-electronic: "Family Matters" TV commercial, and "Neighborhood Map" TV commercial; advertising-outdoor: Orthopedics - "Marlins"; and community outreach: Hispanic Heritage Health Fair - Broward Health Weston.
Broward Health has won a variety of 2009 Hermes Creative Awards. Broward Health Magazine, "Security" (commercial from orthopedics campaign), and BrowardHealth.org (Design/Web Site Overall) each won a Platinum award, and The Doctors Report, won a Gold award. Hermes Creative Awards are an international competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional and emerging media.

The Latin Chamber of Commerce of Broward held the Latin Chamber of Broward Awards Gala on October 10, 2008. Mike Fernandez, chairman of the North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners, and Joseph Cobo, Commission treasurer, each received the Community Award for Broward Health. The Florida Minority Business Council (FRMBC) presented its 2008 Corporation of the Year award to Broward Health for its Supplier Diversity Program at its 33rd Annual Awards Gala, An Evening of Honors and Elegance. "Broward Health is honored that the FRMBC has recognized its Supplier Diversity program as the Best in Class," said LaRae Floyd, manager of supplier diversity at Broward Health.
Broward Health won the Florida Hospital Association's Florida Society for Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing (FSHPRM) "Web-Based Marketing" award for the Orthopedic Microsite at the 2008 annual conference.
Broward Health has been awarded two "Mark of Excellence" awards at the Florida Society for Healthcare Public Relations & Marketing's (FSHPRM) 42nd annual conference. OneCommUnity, Inc., formerly known as the NCCJ, hosted its 30th Annual Silver Medallion Luncheon to honor local community members for diversity efforts and continued commitment to creating an inclusive community. Among the Silver Medallion Award recipients was the Children's Diagnostic & Treatment Center.

Broward Health's website, Browardhealth.org, has won top honors in the League of American Communications Professionals (LACP) 2007 Inspire Awards. The website won first place in its respective category of Web/E-mail/Electronic. The newly designed BrowardHealth.org was launched in September of 2007.

Process improvement teams from Broward Health swept the competition at the regional Performance Excellence Showcase winning the showcase presentation and taking first, second and third in the storyboard presentation. The event was sponsored by the American Society for Quality, the leading authority on quality improvement.

Broward Health has been awarded a Critical Incident Management Systems for Healthcare grant to provide Florida's Region VII hospitals with a new level of preparedness and coordination during times of disaster.

The Avon Foundation has awarded a grant of $150,000 to the Broward Health Breast Cancer Patient Navigator program. The funds will be used over the next two years to expand the program services by adding a bilingual social worker.

Broward Health ranked 33rd nationwide and number one of only four Florida health systems on the list.

Michelle Duhaney, Physician Resident, was 1 of 15 family medicine residents and physicians that were selected to take part in the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) first "Future Leaders" Conference, November 4-5, 2009. The ACOFP Future Leaders Conference was designed for outstanding new physicians. The purpose was to build professional and personal relationships; develop educational opportunities; promote the family medicine profession; nurture leadership and a sense of community. 
Nurses from Broward General Medical Center were honored by the South Florida Organization of Nurse Executives at the 8th Annual Nursing Leadership Awards on Oct. 23 at The Westin in Fort Lauderdale: Joan Osborne, Ed.D., MSN, ARNP; Bibi Achaibar, R.N., MSN, ARNP; Barbara Sverdlik, RN, MN, director of nursing for Broward General Medical Center; Heather Miller, RN, BSN, RNC, CPON, CPN; Tonia Royster, RN, RNC, BS, FACCE, CDONA; Audra Hutton Lopez, ARNP, MSN, FNP-C, CNS; and Cindy Boily, RN, MSN, chief nursing officer for Broward General Medical Center.
Broward General's Heart Center of Excellence is the first Broward hospital to receive the three-year Pediatric and Fetal ECHO Accreditation from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL).

Broward General Medical Center received the American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines Bronze Award. The award recognizes Broward General's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and procedures.

American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer The Comprehensive Cancer Center is recognized as the first accredited cancer program in Broward County by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
American Osteopathic Association The Broward General Medical Center Residency Program is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association.
American Dental Association OMFS Residency Program is accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA).

Chris Evert Children's Hospital

  Chris Evert Children's Hospital Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Palliative Care Nursing team was chosen as the "2010 Best Nursing Team Runner-Up" by ADVANCE for Nurses magazine.
Chris Evert Children's Hospital won a Gold Aster Award for their website. The Aster Awards is a medical marketing awards program allowing healthcare organizations and advertising agencies to compete against similarly sized competitors from across the nation and world.
Ernest Amory Codman Award

The Pediatric Sedation unit of Chris Evert Children's Hospital is the 2007 winner of the 11th annual Ernest Amory Codman Award, a national award recognizing excellence to achieve improvements in the quality and safety of health care. Chris Evert Children's Hospital instituted new protocols, bringing failed sedation rates below the national benchmark for three years and improving parent and physician satisfaction rates to 100%.

The Sleep Disorders Center at Chris Evert Children's Hospital is the only fully accredited pediatric sleep center in Broward County.
The Chris Evert Children's Hospital received Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Program Accreditation.

Coral Springs Medical Center

The Sleep Disorders Center at Coral Springs Medical Center has received accreditation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), becoming one of three accredited sleep disorders centers in Broward County.
The Women's Diagnostic & Wellness Center at Coral Springs Medical Center has received accreditation in mammography screenings as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Coral Springs Medical Center received its license from the state of Florida to be a primary stroke care center. It is recognized as a certified Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and by the Agency for Healthcare Administration.
The Center for Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine earned the Diversified Clinical Services Center of Distinction award by delivering outstanding results for twelve consecutive months in 2009. The award is in recognition of exceeding benchmarks in: Healing Outcomes, Patient Satisfaction, Outlier Management, and Days to Heal.
Coral Springs Medical Center received the Jean Byers Memorial Award for Excellence in Cancer Registration. The award acknowledges the hospital’s timeliness and completeness in reporting cancer case admissions to Florida Cancer Data System. FCDS is Florida's statewide cancer surveillance system.
Coral Springs Medical Center was recently awarded the Mark of Excellence "Best in Show" award in the special events category for the Race for Women's Wellness by the Florida Society for Healthcare Public Relations & Marketing.

Laboratory & Cardio-Pulmonary is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks.

Laboratory & Cardio-Pulmonary is accredited by the College of American Pathologists.

Imperial Point Medical Center

  Imperial Point Medical Center was recognized as one of America's most customer-friendly hospitals by receiving the Hospital of Choice Award by the American Alliance of Healthcare Providers (AAHP) for summer 2010. Only 100 hospitals are named a Hospital of Choice each year and Imperial Point was the only Florida hospital given the distinction at this time.
  Imperial Point Medical Center’s Primary Stroke Center received certification from The Joint Commission. A team including staff from the emergency department, intensive care and progressive care units, pharmacy, physical therapy, speech, and radiology were responsible for achieving The Joint Commission certification. 

Imperial Point Medical Center won First Place, Quality Board Showcase ("SCIP the Infection") for their improved antibiotic administration for surgical patients, meeting or exceeding core measure national benchmarks. The team's collaborative effort for process improvement included a new SCIP protocol form with ordering guidelines, anesthesia commitment to start antibiotics, revision of standing pre-op orders to be SCIP compliant and concurrent review.

  The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at Imperial Point Medical Center has earned the Diversified Clinical Services 2009 Center of Distinction Award for meeting or exceeding company benchmarks in: Healing Outcomes, Patient Satisfaction, Outlier Management, and Days to Heal.

The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at Imperial Point Medical Center was awarded "accreditation with distinction" for its quality patient care and outcomes by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. It is the only wound care center in Florida with this status.

Imperial Point Medical Center's Laboratory & Respiratory are accredited by the College of American Pathologists; Respiratory celebrates its 5th consecutive year with zero deficiencies.
Radiology/ultrasound at Imperial Point Medical Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology.
Radiology: CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine services (in addition to Mammography) at Imperial Point Medical Center are accredited by the American College of Radiology for meeting rigorous quality standards.
  Imperial Point Medical Center's Respiratory Services was named a Quality Respiratory Care Hospital for 2009 by the American Association for Respiratory Care.  
  Imperial Point Medical Center's Respiratory Services was named a Quality Respiratory Care Hospital for 2010 by the American Association for Respiratory Care.  
  The Laboratory and Blood Gas Laboratory at Imperial Point Medical Center are accredited by the College of American Pathologists.

North Broward Medical Center took 3rd place at the American Society for Quality’s World Conference on Quality and Improvement for their storyboard presentation titled, “A Powerful Culture of Safety.” The competition was comprised of organizations from around the world, including Brazil, Japan, and the Philippines. The objective was to promote a culture of safety and dedication to exceeding performance measures for patient satisfaction, infections due to medical care and medication safety.

North Broward Medical Center has earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) from the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC). The AARC is a national program aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in hospitals. Only about 700 hospitals in the United States have applied for and received this award.

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations North Broward Medical Center's Joint Replacement Center has attained Joint Commission Certification, the first in Broward County and one of only three hospitals in the state of Florida to earn this certification. The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval validates that the Joint Replacement Center consistently follows the national standards that lead to the best care of hip and knee replacement patients.
The North Broward Medical Center Memory Disorder Center won South Florida Business Journal's Excellence in Health Care Award for community/ hospital-based program.

UnitedHealth Premium® Specialty Center

North Broward Medical Center was awarded the UnitedHealth Premium® Specialty Center designation from UnitedHealthcare. This designation is based on detailed information about specialized training, practice capabilities and outcomes that we submit to UnitedHealthcare and is designed to help members make informed decisions should they need surgical spine care. To receive this designation, North Broward Medical Center met extensive quality criteria based on nationally recognized medical standards and expert advice. The criteria incorporate measurements of breadth and depth of care, staff experience, emergency care, quality and outcomes reporting.

American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines Gold Performance Achievement Award

North Broward Medical Center received the American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines - Stroke Gold Performance Achievement. North Broward Medical Center met extensive quality criteria based on nationally recognized medical standards and expert advice.

Beacon Award from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses

North Broward Medical Center’s Neuro-Medical ICU has received the prestigious Beacon Award from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. The hospital’s 9-bed ICU delivers care to critically ill and severely injured trauma patients, including those with brain injuries, multiple traumas, hemorrhagic strokes, and those undergoing cerebral embolization to prevent strokes and other complications. The expertise of the award-winning unit speaks for itself - the team’s combined experience adds up to more than 500 years in total. The Beacon Award has been granted to only 16 units nationwide.

American College of Surgeons

North Broward Medical Center's Comprehensive Cancer Center is an approved Cancer program by the Commission on Cancer (CoC). The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons is dedicated to improving health care for cancer patients, by setting strict standards for hospitals and other cancer care facilities, evaluating the resources and the quality of care these facilities provide to patients and outcomes. Only one in four hospitals receives this special distinction of being CoC accredited. Cancer programs earning recognition from the CoC offer high-quality specialized, multidisciplinary approach to cancer care, and maintain a commitment to excellence and the improvement of care. At the Comprehensive Cancer Center at North Broward Medical Center, we are proud to be included among this elite group, being reaccredited with commendation.

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations

North Broward Medical Center's Stroke Center is first in the state of Florida to be recognized as a certified Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and a Comprehensive Stroke Center by the Agency for Healthcare Administration.

The Special Medical Care Unit/Surgical Telemetry (SMCU/ST) received the Best in Teamwork & Adaptability award, from ADVANCE for Nurses news magazine, one of five presented in the publication’s annual Best Nursing Team awards program.
Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations

The North Broward Medical Center Neurological Institute is first in the nation to attain Joint Commission Certification for Alzheimer's Disease. The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval validates that the Memory Disorder Center consistently follows the national standards that leads to the best care of Alzheimer's patients.

Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), the nation's leading accreditation body in the rehabilitation field and the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

North Broward Medical Center was selected as a recipient of a Hospital Achievement Award in recognition of its attainment of an 80% donation rate by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration.

The clinical laboratory and respiratory blood gas lab received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP).The accreditation signifies the departments' commitment to quality excellent in laboratory standards for patient care.

North Broward Medical Center received a Medal of Honor award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration. This award was established to honor hospitals that achieve organ donation conversion rates (number of potential donors who actually became donors) of 75% or higher in a 12-month period. The average national donation rate is 54% and the average donation rate in Florida is 51%.
North Broward Medical Center won an NAPH - National Association of Public Hospitals - Safety Net Award in the category of Accountability and Quality Improvement for their entry: ART (Agency Reduction Team) of Caring presentation.
North Broward Medical Center's Laboratory recently renewed its accreditation from the College of American Pathologists, ensuring the lab provides the highest standard of care.

Broward Health Weston won a "Mark of Excellence" award at the Florida Society for Healthcare Public Relations & Marketing's (FSHPRM) 42nd annual conference. The award was for best and Community Outreach for the Hispanic Heritage Health Fair.
American Registry of Radiological Technology

The Women's Center is FDA accredited featuring a staff that is certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technology.

Broward Health Weston's MRI, Ultrasound, and Mammography equipment are certified by the American College of Radiology.

Community Health Services

A grant of $37,550 to Broward Health from Aetna and the Aetna Foundation will help fund a new program aimed at helping children lose weight and improving the health of their families. The program is the idea of Meena Jhatakia, M.D., pediatrician, at the Seventh Avenue Family Health Center.

Kinship Cares Initiative: A three-year grant totaling more than $433,455.00 was awarded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to the Kinship Cares Initiative to promote access to critical health services to children and their Kinship Caregiver.
