Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

Coral Springs Medical Center introduces Image Guided Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, a minimally invasive surgical technique for the treatment of chronic sinus problems.

What is sinusitis?
Sinusitis, an infection or inflammation of the sinuses, often starts with allergies or a “common cold.” Nasal membranes can swell and generate mucus.Without ventilation, the tissue lining of the nose can become inflamed and the sinuses clogged.

South Florida has one of the highest incidences of sinusitis in the country due to constant high temperatures, humidity and blooming allergens.

Symptoms vary but generally include one or more of the following:

  • Nasal stuffiness
  • Facial pain
  • Headaches
  • Postnasal drip
  • Reduced sense of smell & taste

How does image guided sinus surgery work?
Image Guided Sinus Surgery allows the surgeon to open and drain the sinus passages in a minimally invasive fashion. This method of surgery reduces trauma to the tissue, does not require any incisions and results in less discomfort to the patient producing a quicker recovery.

This surgical technique is performed on an outpatient basis. The procedure usually takes one hour to complete and patients frequently return to work in approximately five days.

Who is a candidate?
For patients suffering from recurrent sinusitis unrelieved by medical treatments, Image Guided Endoscopic Sinus Surgery offers a highly effective alternative to medications or traditional surgery.

Your ear, nose and throat doctor will perform a thorough physical examination and order an image guidance CAT scan to accurately diagnose the problem. If your sinus problem has failed conservative medical measures, you may be a candidate for Image Guided Sinus Surgery.

Why choose CSMC?
The ear, nose and throat doctors at Coral Springs Medical Center specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the sinuses. Many sinus sufferers may improve with medication, but for any number of the 35 million Americans suffering from sinus problems, medications no longer provide relief.
