Pediatric Sedation

Chris Evert Children’s Hospital offers the only dedicated pediatric sedation unit in Broward County. Sedation is the use of a sedative or tranquilizing drug to induce a state of calm, restfulness, or drowsiness.  We provide outpatient sedation for infants and children who need radiological procedures, such as CAT scans, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), renal and bone scans and Electroencephalograms (EEG).

Our child-friendly atmosphere helps minimize a child’s fear and anxiety which is important to all children and especially those with special needs. The sedation team specializes in the safest techniques and is one of the national leaders in using non-narcotic and non-addicting medications for pediatric patients. The time of sedation is short, which helps to decrease the risk of adverse reactions to sedation methods.

The sedation unit is also able to assist our pediatric dentists by providing outpatient sedation to children in need of restorative and diagnostic dental procedures.

We use the most sophisticated imaging techniques to allow our physicians the ability to visualize tissues and access the function of those tissues. They then determine the best course of action for the patient, with minimal discomfort.
