Varian Trilogy and Image Guided Radiation Therapy Systems (IGRT)
The Varian Trilogy and the Varian iX Image Guided Radiation Therapy Systems (IGRT), located at Broward General Medical Center and North Broward Medical Center, provide more precise targeting than the conventional linear accelerators by confirming patient and tumor positioning immediately prior to treatment. This allows for the delivery of higher doses of radiation to tumor sites while sparing adjacent healthy tissues.

Proton Beam Therapy System
In addition, Broward Health is proud to announce the addition of a Proton Beam Therapy System, the safest and most advanced form of radiation treatment for children as well as adults. Historically, because of its high cost (more than $100 million) Proton Beam Therapy has only been available in four locations in the United States: Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital, Loma Linda University, Indiana University and Shands Hospital Jacksonville. The demand for care at these centers has resulted in wait times of more than three months, with patients seeking care from all over the world.
Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, working with Still River Systems, are constructing the first Proton Beam System which will cost less than $14 million and is expected to be operational by mid 2012.
