Volunteer Opportunities

Help us help others. Become a Volunteer!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Broward Health Medical Center/Chris Evert Children’s Hospital. Our volunteers are a vital part of our hospital and provide valuable services for the hospital, our patients and their loved ones.

Our next Volunteer Orientation sessions will be held:

  • Wednesday, September 10, 2014
    10 am - Auditoriums
  • Thursday, September 25, 2014
    6pm - Auditoriums

Please call 954.759.7400 to RSVP for an orientation session.

Our volunteer program is geared towards dedicated students completing school service hours and adults who have time they wish to spend giving back to their community in our hospital.  Please note that our volunteer program does not provide the opportunity to shadow physicians, nurses, or other healthcare providers, nor do we allow volunteers to perform any sort of medical procedures

Adult /Auxiliary Volunteers
A minimum of four hours per week is required to be part of the Auxiliary.  As part of the Auxiliary, you will be entitled to awards for hours worked, an annual appreciation luncheon, and a ticket for a free-cafeteria meal for every four hours worked. And, of course, you will have the gratification that comes along with helping others as you give of yourself to our patients, visitors and staff.
•    Fees
Volunteers accepted into the Auxiliary will need to pay a $20 uniform fee and a one-time application fee of $15.

Teen Volunteers
Teen volunteers must be a minimum of 15 years old. Volunteers in pediatric areas must be at least 18 years old. Teens are asked to commit to contributing a minimum of 100 volunteer hours.
•    Fees
$10 uniform fee

Our Application Process for the Auxiliary and the Student Volunteer Program
Please give some thought to your commitment to volunteer and your reasons for wanting to do so. We ask for a volunteer commitment of a minimum of four (4) hours a week.

Attending an orientation is the first step to becoming an volunteer. At the orientation, you will learn more about the hospital and about volunteer opportunities. You will also fill out an application and additional forms.

STEP 1:  Attend Volunteer Orientation (held monthly)
STEP 2:  Return the Volunteer Application
STEP 3:  You will be called to return for a panel interview to determine your acceptance into the program
STEP 4:  Once accepted you will need to turn in your medical clearance form (we will provide you with a form that must be completed by your physician or other healthcare provider). A background check will be completed. Volunteers in our pediatric areas will need to have a fingerprint background check completed. Uniform and application fees will be due at this time.
STEP 5:  You will be assigned to a department/area based on the needs of the hospital and your interests. You will then be issued an ID badge and given your uniform.

Auxiliary Uniforms
At the interview you will review the uniforms options and make your selection.

Student Uniforms
Students are required to wear the shirts provided to them, black pants (no jeans) and closed toe shoes.

The entire recruiting process takes approximately 4-6 weeks and will require about four trips to the hospital.

If you have additional questions, please call our Auxiliary office at 954-355-5374 or the Student Volunteer Information line at 954-712-6833 or e-mail
