Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine

Welcome to Broward Health's Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine located at Imperial Point Medical Center, winner of the 2007 Clinical Excellence Award for outstanding clinical outcomes and customer service, presented by Diversified Clinical Services which has over 150 centers nationwide.

The center has also been awarded Re-Accreditation "With Distinction" in 2007 by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.

Applying an interdisciplinary approach, the Center's staff treats any non-healing wound. Plastic and vascular surgeons and physicians specializing in wound care comprise just part of this team.

Patients treated at the Center have wounds that are non-healing, such as diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, traumatic injuries, radiation injuries, and more. Non-healing wounds are usually treated with growth factors, vacuum-assisted closures and specialized dressings, and when indicated, hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

The use of hyperbaric medicine demonstrates cutting edge technology, working hand in hand with modern wound care practices.

  • The Center has two 46-inch Sigma Plus hyperbaric chambers able to accommodate one patient each. When relaxing inside the chamber, patients can watch television or a movie while receiving their treatments, which last approximately two hours.
  • It usually takes about 30-40 hyperbaric treatments to treat a hypoxic wound.
