Friday, February 07, 2014 - Broward Health Earns High Ranks in Paperless Efforts

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Broward Health’s Information Technology department is ranked among some of the most prestigious healthcare systems in the nation for enabling paperless clinical tools for caregivers, according to the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Broward Health is one of four hospitals in Florida to achieve a Stage 6 level ranking from the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM), an eight-step process that compares healthcare organizations across the country. The hospital system achieved the level six ranking after completing the launch of a system-wide computerized physician order entry system and a picture archival communication system.

“Broward Health ranks among some of the most prestigious healthcare systems in terms of IT enablement of clinical tools for care givers,” said Dr. Doris Peek, chief information officer at Broward Health. “While the IT department provides the electronic tools, the clinicians and regional leadership are responsible for implementing the transformational changes and adoption of the tools necessary to ensure improved patient safety and better quality outcomes. We congratulate them in achieving this honor and making this journey a reality for Broward Health.”

The EMRAM was developed by HIMSS Analytics, a wholly-owned, not-for-profit subsidiary of HIMSS providing access to the most comprehensive source of provider IT intelligence. Other hospitals achieving Stage 6 include Johns Hopkins Medicine, Duke University Health System, Partners Healthcare System, Emory Healthcare, Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, Detroit Medical Center and Banner Health in Arizona.
