Broward Health Coral Springs Introduces Spine Program
Broward Health Coral Springs is proud to introduce its new spine program to the community. With the development of BHCS’s spine care program also brings the addition of three new physicians - Ian Johnson, M.D., neurosurgery/spinal surgery; Lloyd Maliner, M.D., neurosurgery/spinal surgery; and Steven Svabek, D.O., spinal surgery/orthopedic surgery - all specializing in caring for the back and spine. Michelle F. Marsh Named Vice President of Strategic Planning for Broward Health 
Michelle F. Marsh has been named vice president of strategic planning for Broward Health. Since 2004, Marsh has been the director of marketing and business development at Plantation General Hospital and Westside Regional Medical Center both HCA-affiliated facilities. Broward Health Medical Center Nurses Get Hands-on Heart Experience
Members from Broward Health Medical Center’s hypothermia committee recently attended the two-day international conference ‘Therapeutic Hypothermia and Temperature Management’ in Miami sponsored by the University of Miami. The purpose of the conference was to gather leading scientists and clinicians in the field of therapeutic hypothermia and temperature management. (South Florida Hospital News, April 2012)

Nabil El Sanadi, M.D., Principal Presenter at 2012 AAAAI Annual Meeting
Dr. Nabil El Sanadi, Chief Medical Officer of Emergency Medicine at Broward Health, was a principal presenter at the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology annual meeting held in Orlando. Allergists were presented with a case scenario of a patient suffering from an acute anaphylaxis reaction. (South Florida Hospital News, April 2012)

Salute to Volunteers
Broward Health Medical Center - Jan Danker
Jan Danker is indeed a dedicated volunteer at Broward Health Medical Center. The hospital and the Auxiliary are fortunate that she has chosen to give her time and experience to our organizations. Jan joined the Auxiliary sixteen years ago. During this time, she has devoted more than 8,475 hours of her time. (South Florida Hospital News, April 2012)

Broward Health Coral Springs - Marie Long
At 96, Marie Long continues to dedicate herself to helping others while always seeking new lessons to learn as a volunteer at Broward Health Coral Springs. For the past 21 years, Marie has diligently committed herself to a set weekly schedule of simultaneously providing clerical support to various departments in the hospital - totaling more than 11,000 volunteer hours. Firefighters and FAU Hockey Players Present Four Media Carts with LCD TV’s to Chris Evert Children’s Hospital 
Fort Lauderdale firefighters and Florida Atlantic University hockey players recently held a hockey tournament to raise funds for the Chris Evert Children’s Hospital. The proceeds for the charitable event were used to purchase four media carts with LCD TV’s dedicated to the entertainment of young patients in the hospital. Players from both teams will be on hand to present the gifts on Monday. (, April 6, 2012)

Marketing Campaign Means Name Change for Broward General
As of this summer, Broward Health Broward General Medical Center will become Broward Health Medical Center. In addition, Broward Health Coral Springs Medical Center will become Broward Health Coral Springs, Broward Health Imperial Point Medical Center will switch to Broward Health Imperial Point and Broward Health North Broward Medical Center will change to Broward Health North. A similar change took place in Southern Broward County when the public hospitals were branded under the Memorial Healthcare System. FIU Doctors Now Taking Patients
FIU Health, the clinical enterprise wing of the medical school, is now accepting patients at the university's main West Miami-Dade campus, as well as other locations across Miami-Dade and Broward counties. FIU's healthcare network includes specialists and providers at a variety of local hospitals, including Baptist Health South Florida, Broward Health, and Miami Children's Hospital. Cancer Society’s ‘One Nation, One Cure’ Relay
Family, friends, caregivers, cancer survivors and others will gather for a celebration of hope at this year’s Relay For Life of HOPE/Oakland Park benefiting the American Cancer Society on Friday, April 27 at 6 p.m. at Jaco Pastorius Park. Step Up To the Plate for 'Delish 2012' 
Delish 2012," presented by The Wasie Foundation, is set to satisfy guest's palates on April 27 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Sunrise Civic Center located in Sunrise. Museum of Discovery and Science will Open New Traveling Exhibit on May 19, 2012 Geckos: Tails To Toepads
On May 19, 2012 the Museum of Discovery and Science will open, Geckos: Tails to Toepads, the largest and most advanced gecko exhibition in the country. The traveling exhibition introduces visitors to the remarkable diversity of these lizards in 16 lush naturalistic habitats with living examples from around the world and engaging interactives. New Medical Clinic for the Homeless to Be Built Near Downtown Fort Lauderdale
Work began Tuesday on a new medical clinic for the homeless that will modernize and expand health service started two decades ago from the back of a car. The $2.9 million clinic near downtown Fort Lauderdale will expand the primary medical care available to the homeless. The new clinic will replace a tiny clinic with two exam rooms and aging facilities that strained to handle its 9,700 patients last year, said Jasmin Shirley, Broward Health Community Health Services Vice President. Red Door Luncheon at Woodfield Country Club Deadline Approaching
This popular charity event sponsored by Friends of Gilda's Palm Beach raises money for Gilda's Club South Florida, one of 30 affiliates of the national organization. Sponsored by Interiors by Steven G., the event will feature Dr. Judith Johnson, General Surgeon and Medical Director of Trauma Services at Broward Health North and a performance by the "All American Singers" from St. Andrews school. Tips to Help You Decide On an Urgent Care or Emergency Room 
Noemi Rivera is the medical director at Broward Health Weston’s urgent care clinic. She said her clinic sees anywhere from 1,200 to 1,300 patients per month, but there are plenty more patients who go to the ER when they really don’t need to be there. While many parents’ first reaction may be to go to the emergency room, many others are now turning to a new and growing option in community health care: urgent care centers. Women's Wellness Race Benefits Mammogram Fund
Proceeds from this year’s Women’s race for Wellness and the previous six annual benefit events in Coral Springs go directly into the Lisa Boccard Breast Cancer Fund, which has been instrumental in saving lives by lending financial aid to women who need mammograms but can't afford them. European Car Show, Poker Run at Hard Rock Saturday
The “Rally for the Cure” European Car Show and Poker Run races into Seminole Paradise at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday, April 21 at 10 a.m. The rally will begin at Watson Island and continue to Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino where more than 100 cars will participate in the car show to benefit Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation and Chris Evert Children’s Hospital. The $20 registration fee for drivers will go toward having a Build-A-Bear donated to the hospitals’ children in the driver’s name and will secure a spot in the Poker Run to win cash and prizes. Debbie Kohl Joins North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners
Debbie Kohl has joined the board of commissioners that governs the North Broward Hospital District. She will serve through May 2014. She is the executive vice president/chief financial officer of Broward Bank of Commerce in Fort Lauderdale. (Miami Herald, April 23, 2012)

Newcomers to the list include Broward Health Imperial Point and Broward Health Weston. Other Broward Health facilities to make the list were, Broward Health Coral Springs; which came in at #2, Broward Health Medical Center and Broward Health North which followed in 3rd and 4th place.
