Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Vildana Briga, 32, who sustained severe head injuries in the Bosnian War, underwent a partial facial reconstruction on Dec. 17 at Broward Health Medical Center. She will be discharged today. She will remain in Fort Lauderdale to recover until Dec. 31.

Who: Vildana Briga, of Sarajevo, suffered life threatening wounds at the age of 11 in August 1992 when a bomb exploded in her front yard, killing her 17-month-old brother and grandmother. In the past 20 years, Briga has had more than 20 surgeries, many to her extremities and face.

Dr. Zoran Potparic, a Broward Health plastic surgeon and Bosnian War refugee from Sarajevo, performed an orbital and forehead reconstruction on Briga after learning of her situation.

What: Briga will meet with Dr. Potparic this afternoon. At that time, he is expected to issue her discharge paperwork.

When: Thursday, December 19, 2013

Dr. Potparic will be available for comment at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Briga will be discharged at approximately 3 p.m. She will be available for interviews at a later date.
