Tuesday, June 12, 2012 - Broward Health Imperial Point Named Top Performer for Patient Safety
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Broward Health Imperial Point – formerly Imperial Point Medical Center – is among the top-performing hospitals in South Florida to receive an "A" in a national letter-grade system ranking medical facilities on their ability to avoid infections, medication mix-ups and other preventable mishaps.

Using the most comprehensive collection of publicly-available hospital safety data, a panel of patient safety experts from Harvard, Johns Hopkins and across the United States joined The Leapfrog Group, a non-profit hospital safety advocacy organization, to calculate safety scores for more than 2,700 general hospitals across U.S.

“We pride ourselves in providing a safe environment for all of our patients” said Alice Taylor, Broward Health Imperial Point CEO. “This recognition is a testament to our outstanding physicians, nurses and supporting hospital staff who work so hard to ensure every patient receives the highest level of quality care.”

Preventable hospital-based errors affect tens of thousands of patients each year in the United States. With A, B, C, D, or F grade scores, the Hospital Safety Scores are designed to give patients an identifiable, objective tool that they can use to evaluate the safety of hospitals in their region. The Hospital Safety Score is calculated by utilizing 26 evidence-based, national measures of hospital safety selected after a careful and thorough review of all hospital safety data that is publicly available.
