North Broward Medical Center Laboratory Receives CAP Accreditation
Deerfield Beach, FL - The Laboratory at Broward Health North Broward Medical Center recently renewed its accreditation from the College of American Pathologists, ensuring the lab provides the highest standard of care.
“Our laboratory staff performs more than one million tests each year,” said Donna Valerioti, Laboratory Manager at North Broward Medical Center. “They are extremely dedicated and pride themselves in their contribution to providing safe, quality care to patients.”
The laboratory at North Broward Medical Center is comprised of various sections, including Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Banking, Coagulation and Histology. Each year, the lab processes more than 272,000 specimens. Of the many tests performed, the blood bank department transfuses 10,000 units of blood to patients in need and performs more than 80,000 glucose tests annually.
During the CAP accreditation process, a team of inspectors examined the laboratory's records and quality control of procedures during the past two years. The inspectors examined staff qualifications, lab equipment, facilities, safety program as well as the overall management of the lab.
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is an internationally recognized program and the only one of its kind that utilizes teams of practicing laboratory professionals as inspectors. Designed to go well beyond regulatory compliance, the program helps laboratories achieve the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has granted the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program deeming authority. It is also recognized by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
