Wednesday, May 26, 2010 - Coral Springs Medical Center's Auxiliary Recognized at Appreciation Luncheon

Coral Springs, FL - Coral Springs Medical Center (CSMC) recently held its annual volunteer appreciation luncheon to recognize nearly 400 volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts to the hospital.

Taking place at the Parkland Country Club, the Auxiliary members were honored for their hard work throughout the year by various staff members including CSMC’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, Drew Grossman. “Collectively, the total number of hours volunteered last year was 42,800 hours saving the hospital $428,000 if paid at a $10 hourly rate, said Grossman. “Not only does their uncompensated giving of time and energy allow our employees more time to dedicate to patient care, but their endless fundraising efforts allow us to purchase much needed equipment to better serve our patients which is truly appreciated.”

Last year alone, more than $120,000 was raised to contribute to a portable hand viewer, bone density machine, Wii system for rehab fitness skills, vein viewer, Camp KoralKids scholarships, parts for the pediatric fish tank, holiday boxes for service men & women and the Lisa Boccard Breast Cancer Fund.  The money was collected through the hospital’s gift shop, and supplemented by the sale of baby bracelets, used books and jewelry.

A special honor was also given to CSMC’s Auxiliary President Barbara DeFazio for her twenty years as a volunteer, and for serving as President for nine of those years.
