The Ladies of Harley Visit Broward Health Chris Evert Children’s Hospital for Sixth Annual Toy Delivery
Ft. Lauderdale, FL - On Saturday, December 4, the Ladies of Harley and the Fort Lauderdale Harley Owner’s Group (HOG) delivered some holiday cheer to the patients, staff and families at Broward Health Chris Evert Children’s Hospital. More than 30 riders roared into the hospital parking lot together on their motorcycles that morning, bringing with them backpacks filled with gifts to patients and their siblings, and gifts for hospital staff.
This is the sixth year that the Ladies of Harley have made the trip to Chris Evert Children’s Hospital. The idea for the ride came from Sandy Weston, an avid member of the Ladies of Harley/Ft. Lauderdale Harley Owner’s Group. When Sandy passed away earlier this year, the group decided to honor her memory by renaming the ride “Sandy Weston's A Gift from the Heart Toy Ride.”
The group arrived by motorcycle and visited several different units in the hospital including General Pediatrics, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit.
Many patients are battling life-threatening illnesses, and are unable to leave the hospital during the holidays. The Toy Ride provides an opportunity for them to take their minds off of their illnesses.
“We are so grateful to the Ladies of Harley for this incredible event they provide for the children year after year,” said Trish Lira, Child Life coordinator at Chris Evert Children’s Hospital. “It really lifts their spirits.”
