Wednesday, July 27, 2011 - Broward Health Imperial Point Medical Center Nurse Named a Finalist in Excellence Awards 2011

Fort Lauderdale, FL - Imperial Point Medical Center’s Clinical Nurse Specialist, Catherine Branton, RN, MSN, ARNP, has been named as a finalist in the 2011 Nursing Excellence Awards for Nursing Spectrum/Nurses Week & The award recognizes the extraordinary contributions nurses make to their patients and their peers.

“This recognition is a testament to the outstanding work that Catherine does every single day,” said Mark Sprada, CNO and Interim CEO at Imperial Point Medical Center. “She is constantly finding ways to raise the bar for her peers and improve the quality of life of her patients.”

Ms. Branton has been an ardent supporter and fundraiser for multiple charitable organizations, including United Way and the American Diabetes Association and participates in a number of professional groups including AACN, CMSRN and WOCN. Most recently, she was an enthusiastic participant in the Leadership Training Program for NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders), allowing Broward Health Imperial Point Medical Center to be awarded the important NICHE site designation. She is also a mother of two grown children and sole caregiver for her mother who is in her 90s.

Healthcare professionals from all over the country were asked to nominate the unsung heroes of nursing - RNs who make a difference in the profession.

“Whenever there is an event that involves her coworkers, she is there to support and cheer them on,” said Patrice Del Grosso MSN, RN, who nominated Catherine in the Mentoring category for her positive professional influence, guidance and support of other nurses.

The winners in each category (Advancing & Leading in the Profession, Clinical Care, Community Service, Management, Mentoring, or Teaching) will be in the running for the 2011 National Nurse of the Year Awards.

About Excellence Awards Excellence Awards has been recognizing extraordinary contributions nurses make to their patients, each other, and the profession for more than a decade. Finalist nominations are blinded and ranked by regional nursing leaders on the judging panel. The regional finalists are then honored at regional Galas. At that time, six regional winners, one in each category, are announced. In the fall, regional winners in each category will be judged against other regional winners from across the country. Six national Nurse of the Year winners, one in each category, will be announced and honored at the end of 2011.
