Thursday, October 13, 2011 - Coral Springs Medical Center Lit Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Coral Springs, FL - Broward Health Coral Springs Medical Center is lighting its hospital pink as part of the first annual Paint the Town Pink campaign.  This campaign is a fun way for local businesses to support free mammograms through the Lisa Boccard Breast Cancer Fund, whose mission is to provide funding for care that may otherwise be unattainable for the women in our community, enabling them to obtain screening mammograms.

The exterior of the four-story hospital will be basked in pink lighting beginning at dusk. From the moment visitors drive through the hospital entrance, their vehicles will pass under a fully lit pink catwalk. The parking lot lamp posts are adorned with massive pink banners and the exterior entrances display a total of 92 giant pink breast cancer ribbons.

The idea to light the building pink arose from the hospital’s Lisa Boccard Breast Cancer fundraising campaign Paint the Town Pink, where locals can purchase a $10 pink bracelet and in turn receive great discounts at participating vendors.

“The response from the community purchasing bracelets and local businesses offering discounts was so overwhelming that we decided do go along with the name and ‘paint our town pink,’” says Lisa Boccard, who has been battling breast cancer for over 20 years. “This is a simple way for the community and local businesses to not only bring awareness to breast cancer, but to also salute the brave women who have survived breast cancer, honor those who have lost the battle and remind those to stay vigilant in the fight, just as I continue to so.”

Broward Health Coral Springs Medical Center was built in 1987 and serves more than 127,000 patients a year, performing 8,000 mammograms annually.

In addition to Paint the Town Pink, Coral Springs Medical Center joins Broward Health in MAMMO-PALOOZA.  As part of this weeklong event, the hospital has scheduled over 375 mammograms for the week of Oct. 10, furthering the Lisa Boccard Breast Cancer Fund’s mission of early detection.
