Broward Health Weston First in Broward County to Install 128 Multi-Slice CT Scanner
Broward Health Weston is the first healthcare facility in Broward
County and one of the first in the country to install the Siemens
Somatom Definition AS+ 128 Multi-Slice CT scanner. Beginning Monday,
October 13th, patients scheduled for CT at Broward Health Weston will
be scanned by this highly adaptive scanner that provides exceptional
image quality with minimal radiation exposure.
The Somatom Definition AS+ is the world’s first CT scanner that adapts
to virtually any patient, offers clinicians unprecedented information
and provides each person with significant radiation protection, setting
a new benchmark in lowering the radiation exposure to the patient.
The system will provide for almost any kind of diagnostic imaging exam,
including vessel imaging, cardiac tests and cancer staging, on any type
of patient and according to the needs of the patient. The speed of the
scanner is faster than the human heart producing spectacular images.
“To say we’re looking forward to offering the community this
state-of-the-art technology is an understatement. The 128 Multi-Slice
CT Scanner can rapidly image more of the patient’s body with clearer
images, and may eliminate the need for follow-up tests,” said Natassia
Orr, administrator of Broward Health Weston.
Developed by Siemens Healthcare, “the Somatom Defnition AS+ gives us a
level of flexibility for CT scanning that we never had before,
providing the ability for almost any kind of exam,” said Dr. Charles
Cole, Medical Director for Diagnostic Imaging at Broward Health Weston.
The Somatom Definition AS+ will join Broward Health Weston’s other
diagnostic imaging services that include 3D/4D ultrasound, digital
mammography, digital bone densitometry, MRI and breast MRI.
