The New Anterior Hip Replacement Surgery with the hana® table. [More...]

Broward Health North has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ for health care quality for Hip and Knee Replacement from the nationally recognized Joint Commission, the first and only hospital in Broward County to achieve this prestigious certification for these procedures.

The Joint Replacement Center at Broward Health North is committed to providing the highest quality care to patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery. Using the latest advances in joint replacement surgery and family-centered patient education and therapy, we are dedicated to improving our patients’ recovery and quality of life.

Our customer-focused program offers:

Joint Replacement

Many individuals have joint pain that hampers everyday activities, either because of arthritis, a fracture or other conditions. If medications and use of aids such as a cane are not helpful, patients, after consultation with their doctor, may find relief from their pain with joint replacement surgery. The goal of joint replacement surgery is to relieve joint pain caused by damage to the cartilage or bone.

State-of-the-Art Surgical Techniques

The orthopedic surgeons at Broward Health North are dedicated to providing you the latest options in joint replacement surgery so you can get back to your daily activities with the shortest recovery time possible. Surgeries included in the Joint Replacement Center are hip and knee replacements, revision (re-operation) of hip and knee replacements, hip resurfacing and unicompartmental partial knee replacement.

One surgical technique available at the Joint Replacement Center is the anterior approach to hip replacement surgery using the hana® table, which allows the surgeon to reach the hip joint from the front of the hip as opposed to the side or back approach. With the anterior approach, the hip can be replaced without detachment of muscle, leading to a faster recovery for the patient.

Another technology available at the Joint Replacement Center is computer-assisted technology to perform total knee replacement surgery. This advanced technique enhances results and recovery of a total knee replacement by providing more accurate placement and alignment of implants.

Accurate alignment of any joint replacement is critical to the overall function of your new joint, and it also plays a role in helping your joint feel healthy again, and helping the joint replacement to potentially last longer. Computer-assisted technology has made it possible for our orthopedic surgeons to navigate joint replacement procedures with unprecedented accuracy and precision. Benefits include:

  • Providing your surgeon with comprehensive data about your anatomy which may result in more exact placement of your joint replacement
  • Allowing the surgeon to more accurately plan for your surgery with a partial 3-dimensional model of your knee
  • Providing the surgeon with control, feedback and the ability to correct potential errors during the surgery
  • Allowing for better visualization of anatomy, which is particularly important when minimally-invasive techniques are used
  • Reducing the risk of dislocation and revision surgery
  • Results in greater stability and range of motion
  • Helps improve the overall function of your joint replacement
  • Reduced blood loss during surgery, which lessens the need for a blood transfusion
  • Faster recovery
  • Reduced length of your hospital stay
  • Shorter post-operative physical rehabilitation
  • Less scarring
