The Birth Experience of a Lifetime

The birth of a child is a momentous family occasion. Every family has their own ideas about how they want this special event to unfold.  Just share with us your "birthing plan," and we will support you in making it happen! At the Maternity Place at Broward Health Coral Springs, we do all we can to give you the birth experience you want.

Here's just a sampling of what you can expect from the Maternity Place:

Highly Trained Medical and Nursing Staff - Physicians on staff at Broward Health Coral Springs received their training at the nation’s top medical schools. Many of our nurses have received advanced specialty training in childbirth and neonatal care.

24-hour On-Site Anesthesia - With an anesthesiologist always on site, that means anesthesia services are readily available if you decide to have an epidural or if a C-section is required.

Labor Delivery Recover (LDR) Suites - Take a Tour Now! - Our labor and delivery unit enables you to experience the entire birth process in the comfort of our private LDR suites. All are equipped with centralized fetal, labor monitoring and specialized birthing beds and labor support equipment. If your birth plan includes a labor Doula (private labor coach) or a water birth, Broward Health Coral Springs also provides for these delivery options. Check with your health care provider.

Mother/Baby Unit- After your recovery, you will be transferred to our mother/baby unit for the remainder of your stay. There, you’ll have the opportunity to rest, spend time with your baby and celebrate the birth with family and friends. A chair/bed sleeper is available for your husband or partner if they choose to spend the night.

Couplet Care: Our philosophy is that mothers and their babies benefit by being a family unit immediately after birth. Broward Health Coral Springs provides mother and baby care known as “Couplet Care.” Your baby is kept in the room with you following delivery and throughout your stay providing family bonding time in addition to observing and participating in the care of your new baby. We also understand that you may have special needs during your stay and we will make every effort to accommodate those needs.

Family Participation Options - Families may choose the extent of participation by fathers, siblings and other relatives.

Perinatal Unit - The unit has six dedicated beds with state-of-the-art maternal/fetal monitoring equipment for close observation for pregnant women and is staffed with nurses who have expertise in perinatal care.

On-Site C-Section Surgical Suites - If surgery is needed, our state-of-the-art C-section surgical suites are located within the labor/delivery unit. That means no delay when time is important. Your husband/partner or birthing coach is welcome within the surgical suite to provide the support you need.

24-Hour Level II Neonatal Unit - You’ll feel confident knowing Broward Health Coral Springs has its own Level II Neonatal Unit. The unit is staffed on a 24-hour basis by neonatologists and highly skilled nurses who can provide expert care for any baby needing special attention, for high-risk cases or in the event that complications arise.  Parents are given frequent updates and encouraged to visit us as often as possible.

A Family Affair - Siblings will be able to visit the newborn in the room. Fathers are encouraged to spend the night to be close to mother and baby.

Infant Hearing Screening - Infant screening identifies hearing problems during the first days of life. Those with hearing impairment are referred to support programs that can help maximize the infant’s hearing so development is not adversely affected.

Neonatal Follow-up Program - Premature infants are often medically at risk or need special services. Pre-term babies discharged from the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit receive follow up care and screening to make sure the child is growing and learning at his/her best pace.

On-site Breastfeeding Consultant - Without the right support, it’s easy for mother and baby to get discouraged about breastfeeding. Our on-site certified lactation consultant can help you and baby get off to the right start. That can mean better long-term recovery and health for both you and baby! Our lactation consultant is even available to help after you go home.

Newborn Teaching Channel - A newborn teaching channel is available 24-hours a day in every room to provide you with education regarding: bathing an infant, care of the umbilical cord, soothing a crying baby, and other special newborn needs.

Gifts - We’ll send you home with an individually prepared birth certificate with footprint as mementos of your baby’s birth.

Caregiver Training - If you have another adult caregiver caring for your baby at home, our infant care specialists will be happy to provide training in bathing, feeding and other infant care basics.

Community Education Center - Educational classes are available for the whole family! Visit our Community Education Center for complete class descriptions and schedule.
