Broward Health is one of four hospitals in Florida to achieve a Stage 6 level ranking from the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM), an eight-step process developed by HIMSS Analytics that compares healthcare organizations across the country. – February 2014

Broward Health Imperial Point has earned the title of a 'Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders' (NICHE) facility. – February 2014

Broward Health Medical Center was awarded the 2013 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Gold Plus Award for excellence in treatment of strokes for two consecutive 12-month periods.

Broward Health Medical Center is the only Broward County hospital to receive no Medicare readmission penalty for all publicly-reported measures.

In 2013 and for the fifth year in a row, Dr. Chizner has been named one of America's Top Doctors by Castle Connelly Medical Ltd., which focuses on the top 1% of the doctors in the nation.

Broward Health Medical Center started a newly AOA-accredited, post-graduate cardiology fellowship program in July 2013, the only such teaching program in Broward County.

The Broward Health Coral Springs pediatric emergency room was voted a Favorite ER in Broward County by Broward Family Life. – January 2013

American College of Surgeons

Comprehensive Cancer Center at Broward Health North hospital has been granted a three-year accreditation with commendation by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. – January 2013

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations

Broward Health North and the Spine Care Center have earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Spine Surgery. – January 2013

Broward Health North has received the Most Hip Replacements in Florida recognition (highest rating) by U.S. News & World Report, 2012.

Broward Health was awarded a School Based Health Center Capital Program grant in the amount of $428,676 from Health Resources and Services Administration to renovate its three school-based health centers at William Dandy Middle School, Lauderhill Middle School, and Deerfield Beach High School. – December 2012

Broward Health Imperial Point, Broward Health Coral Springs and Broward Health North received an A rating by The Leapfrog Group in a national ranking of more than 2,700 hospitals on their ability to keep patients safe.  – November 2012

Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Broward Health North received accreditation from CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) for their Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation and Stroke Rehabilitation Programs. – November 2012

Broward Health Medical Center was one of six hospitals in South Florida recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services with a Medal of Honor for exceptional achievement in organ donation. – November 2012

Broward Health was one of seven distinguished award winners for Philanthropic Work in the Community at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Salute to Business Awards. – November 2012


The Healthcare IT News has listed Broward Health’s IT department as one of four hospital IT departments to watch on its “Where to Work: BEST Hospital IT Departments” list. – November 2012

Broward Health received the Gold Award for Best Integrated Marketing Campaign for its Powerful Orthopedics/Skeleton Crew campaign at the National eHealthcare Awards in Las Vegas. – November 2012

Henderson Behavioral Health honored Joel K. Gustafson, chair of the NBHD Board of Commissioners, for his investment and remarkable commitment to behavioral health services in our community at the 25th Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards. – October 2012

Broward Health Medical Center’s Sue Brown was named national Case Manager of the Year by the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses. – October 2012

Broward Health Medical Center received accreditation by the American College of Radiology for a three-year term. – October 2012

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
Broward Health Coral Springs is recognized as a certified Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission. – October 2012

Broward Health became a partner in the HEART Alliance for Sustainable Families in order to provide health education and linkages to a medical home for participants through a partnership between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services. – September 2012

Broward Health was awarded a $1,000,000 grant from Florida Department of Health – High Impact Prevention for HIV/AIDS to provide education and outreach to the community as well as implement the Partnership for Health program within the Comprehensive Care Center to educate HIV positive patients on how to prevent the spread of the disease. – September 2012

The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at Broward Health Coral Springs earned the Diversified Clinical Services Center of Distinction and Robert A. Warriner III, M.D. awards. – August 2012 

Legacy Magazine Named Broward Health Community Health Services Vice President Jasmin Shirley One of South Florida’s 25 Most Influential & Prominent Black Women in Business for 2012. – August 2012

Dr. Susan Widmayer, of Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center, received the Jack Hardy Communicator Award from the Florida Society for Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing. – July 2012

Broward Health Coral Springs’ Sleep Disorders Center was granted Out of Center Sleep Testing (OCST) accreditation to perform home sleep studies by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. This is currently the only sleep center that offers this service throughout Broward Health. – July 2012

Broward County Commissioners proclaimed that June 7th will be Broward Health Day in recognition of Broward Health’s commitment to provide compassionate and quality healthcare to the residents of the county. – June 2012

Broward Health Imperial Point received an “A” (the highest score possible) in a national Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group® which graded hospitals on their ability to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors. – June 2012

Broward Health Medical Center’s wound ostomy & incontinence nurse specialist Amparo Cano was recognized by the United Ostomy Associations of America for her exceptional service and dedication to the Broward County Ostomy Association. Amparo was also nominated for the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse of the Year. – May 2012 

Broward Health North received the American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines GOLD PLUS Performance Achievement Award and the Gold Seal™ of approval from the Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers. – April 2012  

Broward Health Corporate Resources and Materials Management (CRMM) received the Operational Financial Improvement Award and Supplier Diversity Excellence Award from MedAssets during the 2012 MedAssets Healthcare Business Summit. – April 2012

Broward Health’s Human Resources program was named a finalist in the “Best Retention Program/Practices” category for the 2012 ERE Recruiting & Retention Excellence Awards. – April 2012

Broward Health Medical Center is a LIVESTRONG® Community Impact Project award recipient, winning $15,000 for a new hospital artist-in-residence. The Creative Center - Hospital Artist-in-Residence Program brings the arts to people with cancer and chronic illness through all stages of life. – March 2012

Broward Health Community Health Services received the American Cancer Society, Florida Division’s Community Education Grant Program to Address Cancer Disparities. This award was used to implement the Colorectal Information Network, which hosted a series of lectures and events to provide awareness, education and linkage to resources in the community concerning colorectal screenings and follow-up care. – March 2012

Broward Health was awarded the first Emergency Care Research Institute (ECRI) Healthcare Supply Chain Award for achieving excellence in overall spend management and adopting best practice solutions into their supply chain processes. – February 2012

American College of Surgeons

Broward Health Medical Center’s Cancer Center received a three-year approval with commendation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer (COC). – February 2012

Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center was awarded the 2011 Broward’s Community Choice Award. – February 2012

Broward Health Medical Center’s Primary Stroke Center was recognized with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. – February 2012 

Broward Health North’s Joint Replacement Center received Joint Commission Re-Certification for hip and knee replacement.  BHN was the first hospital in Broward County to attain this certification. – January 2012

Broward Health North’s Neurological Institute received Joint Commission Re-Certification for its Alzheimer ’s disease Program.  BHN is the first and only hospital in the nation to attain this certification. – January 2012

Audra Lopez, MSN, ARNP, nurse practitioner for the Adult Liver Program at Broward Health Medical Center, was awarded the 2011 Kruger Award by the Transplant Foundation for her outstanding service and commitment to the transplant community. Award recipients received $1,000. – January 2012

Broward Health received a $60,000 grant from the Health Foundation of South Florida to be used to conduct a feasibility study on Broward Health attaining the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s patient centered medical home recognition status. – January 2012

Two Broward Health Medical Center residents of Graduate Medical Education, Dr. Theresa Cao and Dr. Roya Ghorsriz, were awarded the prestigious Daniel Koprince award by the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology. – January 2012
