Dizziness & Balance Center
Do you lose your balance or feel dizzy?
Dizziness itself is not a disease; it's a symptom – a warning that you may have a problem. Dizziness, vertigo, disequilibrium, and balance disorders are the primary medical causes of falls among the elderly. Some causes of dizziness and/or balance problems include:
- Inner ear disorders (vertigo)
- Stroke
- Head injury
- Neurological disorders
Frequent or recurring dizziness can diminish a person's independence and quality of life, as well as increase the risk of falling. The Dizziness and Balance Center at Broward Health North is a comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitation facility for patients with dizziness and/or balance problems. Physical therapists that specialize in neurological and vestibular (inner ear) rehabilitation perform a balance evaluation.
To evaluate and treat patients, the Dizziness and Balance Center uses the SMART Balance Master, a computerized dynamic posturography which is an advanced diagnostic tool developed for NASA. A personalized treatment program is designed for the patient to establish individualized therapy designed for the prevention of falls, improvement of mobility and balance.
A referral from your physician is required for evaluation and treatment.
