BGMC Pharmacy Residency (PGY1) Program

Mission statement for the program:

To develop a well-rounded competent clinical staff practitioner.

Expected outcomes of the resident:

  1. Manage and improve the medication-use process
  2. Provide evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy management with interdisciplinary teams
  3. Exercise leadership and practice management skills
  4. Demonstrate project management skills
  5. Provide medication and practice-related education/training
  6. Utilize medical informatics
  7. Conduct pharmacy research

General:

Broward General Medical Center residents will participate in distributive as well as clinical pharmacy functions. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, residents will experience a wide variety of practice environments.  Residents may choose from a large selection of electives. The various facilities throughout Broward Health provide excellent exposure for candidates in many areas of specialized medicine. There are opportunities to expand and enhance knowledge base via training with an emphasis in acute care, ambulatory care, or pediatric care. Longitudinal experiences focusing on patient safety, administration, ambulatory clinic experience, and academia are integrated into the program. The candidate will also have the opportunity to precept Pharm.D. students throughout the year.

Research Project: Is a requirement of the program and is to be presented in publishable quality. The resident will present written as well as oral results.

Positions: There is one (1) position fully funded by Broward General Medical Center.

Benefits: The resident receives (through pre-tax payroll deductions) health insurance with optional dental and optical plans, personal time, vacation, discounted meals, and professional travel reimbursement (for the ASHP Clinical Mid-Year Meeting and the Southeastern Residency Conference). Parking is provided for free to the resident.

Special Requirements for Acceptance: Pharm.D. or B.S. degree (which must be obtained prior to the first day of the residency) with licensure eligibility in Florida. Licensure must be obtained within the first 60 days of the program and candidates must arrange to take the NAPLEX & Florida MPJE by July 30th of Residency year.

Salary: $38,000 per year.

Now Accepting Applications for 2012-2013

This residency program is a one (1) year; ASHP accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency focused on providing the experience to become a competent, self-confident and successful clinical pharmacist. The following steps outline the application process.

The resident must also be enrolled in the ASHP Residency Matching process.  Information on this can be accessed via the website http://www.natmatch.com/ashprmp/

DEADLINE for receipt of all materials is January 20, 2012 (Submit all application materials to Robert J. Kraljevich, Pharm.D. at the address listed below)

Applicants must submit by the deadline:

  1. A brief letter of intent that includes your goals and objectives for completion of our ASHP accredited program. Include why you are pursuing a residency. Include any relevant information you wish to be evaluated during the consideration process.
  2. Submit an updated Curriculum Vitae.
  3. Provide three (3) letters of recommendation one (1) of which is authored by a faculty member. The recommendation should focus on why you should be considered for the residency program.
  4. An official-sealed transcript from the college(s) of pharmacy where the candidate is expected to graduate or did graduate.

After receipt of all the required materials, selected applicants will be contacted for an interview. The interview deadline is February 24, 2012 (may be extended per arrangement).
