For patients undergoing joint replacement surgery for the hip or knee, a comprehensive educational class is offered prior to surgery. You will meet with a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals that includes an anesthesiologist, nurse and physical therapist. The Total Joint Team will discuss with you how their specialties will aid in your upcoming surgery and recovery. Emphasis is on educating and engaging the patient to be a part of the rehab team with focus on achieving your optimal outcome. These group classes are offered every Tuesday from 10:00 am to 11:00. RSVP is not necessary. We welcome extended family and network support to attend with the patient.
Following orthopedic surgery, you may be referred to physical therapy or rehabilitation. Broward Health Imperial Point's Physical Therapy program offers a full scope of services for the treatment of orthopedic injury and musculoskeletal dysfunction to restore joint mobility, increase strength and manage pain. Many of our physical therapists are specialized and certified in Manual Therapy, which is "hands-on" physical intervention, and McKenzie Therapy, which treats spinal dysfunction and pain by focusing on exercise and posture. Our emphasis is on teaching patients to take responsibility for their improvement and understanding how to maintain and improve joint function over their lifetime.
Total joint replacements are performed with the cutting-edge Stryker Navigation System for a more precise cutting of bone and proper fitting of prosthesis.
