Health Tip: Make Sure Kids Get Enough Water

(HealthDay News) -- Fever, vomiting and diarrhea can all lead to dehydration, especially when under-the-weather little ones aren't interested in eating and drinking.

The Nemours Foundation offers these tips for parents to keep sick kids well-hydrated:

  • If your child has a sore throat, offer acetaminophen or ibuprofen to ease pain and make eating and drinking more comfortable.

  • Offer popsicles and cold drinks that may feel good on a painful, burning throat.

  • Control a fever with physician-approved medication and a lukewarm bath.

  • Make sure you encourage fluids before your child complains of being thirsty.
