Broward General Medical Center Among U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Metro Ranking
Fort Lauderdale, FL - Broward General Medical Center has been ranked eleventh out of 69 hospitals in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area in US News & World Report’s first-ever Best Hospitals Metro Area 2010-11 ranking. The new metro ranking system evaluates hospitals in 52 metropolitan areas with populations of more than one million.
Broward General Medical Center also was named a high performer in heart services and heart surgery - Broward’s only hospital to earn that designation - as well as for ear, nose, and throat care, and the treatment and care of kidney disorders.
For 21 years, US News & World Report has ranked hospitals annually based on a combination of factors including reputation, number of patients treated, survival rate, technology, and other variables.
According to Avery Comarow of US News & World Report, the new metro rankings are geared towards a broader consumer audience - patients who are looking for high quality local health care but who may not require the specific expertise offered at only a handful of nationally ranked facilities across the country. These centers have a strong record of high performance for most conditions and procedures in one or more specialties, and are more likely to be found in a patient’s insurance network.
“Broward General Medical Center is honored that the outstanding care we provide to our patients has received this important recognition,” said Michael A. Chizner, MD, FACP, FACC, FAHA, Chief Medical Director, The Heart Center of Excellence at Broward General Medical Center. “It reflects the dedication of our entire team of staff, physicians, and administration.”
