Received FMA’s 2011 Roy M. Baker Emergency Medical Services Award
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - Dr. Nabil El Sanadi, chief of emergency medicine for Broward Health, was chosen to receive the Florida Medical Association’s 2011 Roy M. Baker Emergency Medical Services Award. The award was presented October 22, 2011, by the Florida Board of Governors.
Dr. Nabil El Sanadi is joined by members of Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.
Established in 1995, this award is given to a physician or layperson whose efforts have greatly contributed to protecting the health and safety of citizens of their community, either in preparation of, or during the time of, a natural or caused disaster. El Sanadi was given this honor in recognition of his service as the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) medical director the City of Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue and Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Services. As EMS medical director he manages firefighter and paramedic field protocols, oversees quality assurance, gives lectures and supervises EMS education.

Last year, they responded to 92,000 calls and transported more than 48,000 patients. To practice cutting-edge, evidence-based medicine, whether working on a cardiac arrest or a trauma patient, these chiefs and their paramedics are the frontline of health care,” El Sanadi said.
El Sanadi graduated from Ohio State University with honors in medicine and public health. Following medical school, he completed a medicine residency and a one-year cardiology research fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio. He also obtained a Masters of Business Administration at Weather Head School of Management in Cleveland, Ohio.
He is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and has been a regular presenter at the American College of Emergency Physicians National Scientific Assemblies since 1994. He was a member of the Board of Governors for the Florida Medical Association between 2002 and 2010.
In 2011, Gov. Rick Scott appointed El Sanadi to the Florida Board of Medicine. He is currently the chair of the Florida Medical Association’s Council for Ethical and Judicial Affairs and was recently re-appointed to the Broward County Emergency Medical Services Council.
