Open for Business! Phase Two of Coral Springs Medical Center’s ER Renovations Complete
Coral Springs, Fla. - Broward Health Coral Springs Medical Center (CSMC) has a reason to celebrate! Phase two of its Emergency Department (ED) construction project is now complete and the ED is open for business.
Doors to the renovated ED opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony. “The brand new spacious layout of our ED allows for a less stressful environment for patients, their families and our staff,” said Randi Alfonzo, nurse manager of CSMC’s ED.
CSMC employees participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the unveiling of the phase two ED renovation. (L to R): Randi Alfonzo, nurse manager of CSMC’s ED; Howard Allen, CSMC master service mechanic; Dr. Daniel Stone, medical director of CSMC’s ED; Bernie Saenz, IT project management office; Sylvia Conlee, CSMC regional manager of children’s services; and Jessie Reyes, representative from Skanska.
Phase one of the $21 million project broke ground in January 2008 and was completed in October 2010. Phase two renovated the original ED to match the new expansion. The total renovation has increased the square footage of the entire ED to 28,000 square feet - nearly doubling its original size - and increased its exam rooms from 23 to 40. CSMC’s ED for Kids, voted two years in a row as the “Best Pediatric ER in Broward County” by South Florida Parenting magazine, has a designated pediatric waiting area along with eight pediatric private rooms.
Features of CSMC’s ED phase two renovations include:
State-of-the-art resuscitation rooms
Advanced OR-type lighting in the resuscitation rooms
Stainless steel OR cabinets
Six monitoring stations for cardiac monitoring capability anywhere in the ED
Increased secure access
Secure hold room for behavioral health patients
Separate EMS and staff lounges
Designated “family room” for family/visitors that promotes patient and family-centered care
Indoor and outdoor decontamination showers
Three additional nursing stations (totaling five) with designated physician documentation areas
On-call room for physicians
Designated respiratory workspace
Dual med-com stations to ensure safe hand-off from EMS to hospital personnel
Now that CSMC’s fully renovated ED is open, it is expect to see an increase in volume - up to 4,000 more patient visits from last year - for a total projection of 58,000 patients.
“The hard work and dedication by our team allowed for a seamless transition from the opening of phase one to the completion of phase two,” said Dr. Daniel Stone, medical director of CSMC’s ED. “We are proud to be working in our new state-of-the-art facility.”
