CDTC Christmas In July Toy Drive To “Wrap” Up At Stout Bar And Grill
The CDTC Transformers, a group of local professionals dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center, will be hosting a “Wrap” Up appreciation cocktail party where guests are being asked to bring a roll of wrapping paper or a new, unwrapped toy for the kids of the Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center. Expansions and Relocations

Thirty- Fifth Annual Appreciation Banquet: One Cause, One Community
The Sickle Cell Disease Association of Broward County, Inc. hosted its 35th annual appreciation banquet on Sept. 22, 2012 at the E. Pat Larkins Community Center. Rosalind Pinder, chair of the SCDABC’s Executive Board opened with a passionate appeal to their supporters to remain committed to raising funds for research to find a cure. Broward Health Lowers Tax Rate 
The North Broward Hospital District announced Wednesday it is lowering its tax rate by one percent for the upcoming fiscal year. That means the owner of a $200,000 home with homestead exemption will pay $278 in hospital taxes, down from $281, the district said. (Miami Herald, businessweek.com, 10/4/12)

HHS Medal of Honor for Organ Donation Hospital Awards
Broward Health Medical Center is acknowledged as a Bronze Medal Hospital for achieving 75 percent or greater collaborative conversion rate. (hrsa.gov, 10/4/12)

AdvaMed: Dashboard Compares Docs' Outcomes Performance, Revenue Generation
Broward Health has created and instituted a digital dashboard that compiles and reports detailed data on the economic and clinical utilization of physician performance. Brian Bravo, Director of Corporate Resource and Materials Management, described this model during an Oct. 3 presentation at the 2012 AdvaMed conference in Boston. Broward Health Weston Names Lisa Tepper as Manager of Administrative Services

Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center
The Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center recently received a $20,000 grant from American Express Charitable Fund in support of the center’s Thanksgiving Basket Brigade. Mammogram Campaign Detecting Early Success
With less than two weeks until the fourth annual Mammopalooza officially kicks off on Monday, Oct. 1, Broward Health has already registered 387 mammograms for the month of October, with more being scheduled daily. (South Florida Times, 9/21/12)

Unlike previous years where MAMMOPALOOZA has been a two-week campaign, this year it will run the full month of October, which also means higher goals. South Florida Today
Broward Health is offering reduced cost mammograms during the entire month of October. Mammopalooza is a fun, frilly, girl themed event that brings awareness to the lifesaving screenings going on all month long. It will run starting today all the way through October 31st. Breast Cancer Mortality Greater In Minorities
A new study by the National Cancer Institute reveals women of color are twice as likely to die from breast cancer compared to white women. Dr. Nicholas Tranakas, Medical Director of Cancer Services for Broward Health, said the problem is that when the cancer is finally diagnosed, it often in its late stages.  (Local 10 News, 10/6/12)

Medical Bra Eases Trauma
Cancer survivor Kim Haley invented the Medebra after undergoing a lumpectomy and having to wear an uncomfortable bra after the surgery. The Medebra is provided to post-surgical patients at three of Broward Health’s four hospitals in addition to being sold in the gift shops. Stiletto Strut Project Melds Art with Awareness
Friends Judy Polstra and Michelle Morse of Coral Springs have both had many personal experiences with breast cancer. So when Broward Health asked them to design and paint oversized stiletto shoes for breast cancer awareness, they were on board. Glam Doll Strut creator Tammy Gail came up with the idea for the 5-feet-tall shoes to be painted by local artists and displayed in Broward Health hospitals during the month of October.
