Broward Health Hospitals Receive Wheelchair Donation from the Wheelchair Foundation and CVS Caremark
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Broward Health Medical Center (BHMC) and Chris Evert Children’s Hospital (CECH) have received a donation of 20 wheelchairs from The Wheelchair Foundation and CVS Caremark.
Calvin Glidewell, CEO of Broward Health Medical Center/Chris Evert Children’s Hospital and Jack Drury, President of the SE region of The Wheelchair Foundation.
Jack Drury, president of the Southeast region of The Wheelchair Foundation, organized the delivery of the chairs to Broward Health Medical Center.
“The wheelchairs are a welcome addition that will help get our patients where they need to be with less waiting, making their overall care more comfortable,” said Calvin Glidewell, chief executive officer at BHMC/CECH. “We truly appreciate the support and generosity of both foundations.”
BHMC has received previous donations of wheelchairs from The Wheelchair Foundation. In addition to enhancing patient care, the donations have enabled BHMC to give wheelchairs to patients upon discharge who due to lack of insurance are unable to purchase a wheelchair independently.
“For those with illnesses or disabilities that make walking difficult or impossible, having a wheelchair at home offers an opportunity for independence and mobility that would not be possible otherwise,” said Drury.
The Wheelchair Foundation is a non-profit organization leading an international effort to create awareness of the needs and abilities of people with physical disabilities, to promote the joy of giving, create global friendship and to deliver a wheelchair to every child, teen and adult in the world that needs one, but cannot afford one.
