Monday, December 10, 2012 - Three Broward Health Hospitals Earn Top Rank For Safety

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Three Broward Health hospitals have earned an A rating by The Leapfrog Group, a non-profit hospital safety advocacy group.

Broward Health Imperial Point, Broward Health North and Broward Health Coral Springs received the highest letter rating for how well the hospitals protect patients from infections, medical and medication errors, accidents and injuries in a national ranking of more than 2,700 hospitals.

Using the most comprehensive collection of publicly-available hospital safety data, a panel of patient safety experts from Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University and across the United States joined The Leapfrog Group, a non-profit hospital safety advocacy organization, to calculate safety scores for more than 2,700 general hospitals across the United States.

Preventable hospital-based errors affect tens of thousands of patients each year in the U.S. With A, B, C, D or F grade scores, the Hospital Safety Scores are designed to give patients an identifiable, objective tool that they can use to evaluate the safety of hospitals in their region. The Hospital Safety Score is calculated by utilizing 26 evidence-based, national measures of hospital safety selected after a careful and thorough review of all hospital safety data that is publicly available.
