CECH Patients Get the Scoop on the Secret Life of a Mischievous Cat
Being a patient in a hospital can be quite trying, but imagine being a child in a hospital bed during the holiday season. Fortunately for them, there are some empathetic and generous souls who can turn a not so merry holiday into a festive one.
Todd Friedman and Megan Andrews, a husband and wife team wrote My Secret Life as Peanut. The book is based on the true story and shenanigans of Sassy (name changed to Peanut for story), a next-door neighbor’s calico cat in Plano, Texas. Peanut lived a secret life away from her owners during the day. Her double life at their home brought humorous, naughty and nice moments to her second set of caregivers. The book is filled with engaging photos of Peanut and fascinating facts about cats.
Todd and Megan now reside in Fort Lauderdale which is home to Broward Health Chris Evert Children’s Hospital. Their book is an early reader chapter book for ages five to ten, that promotes reading, pet adoption and supports animal charities. So what could be a better pairing than pediatric patients and an entertaining book about a real cat? Not only did the kids get an autographed copy of the book, but also a tattoo of Peanut’s likeness on their arm. Kids, tattoos and books…need we say more?
“Our visit to Chris Evert Children’s Hospital gave us the opportunity to bring cheer and gifts to the pediatric patients and their families in times of need during the holiday season,” said Todd. “It was so heartwarming to see such a friendly and attentive staff to the kids as well.”
The program’s mission is to “make a difference” in the community and partner with area hospitals such as Broward Health Chris Evert Children’s Hospital. The book donation program will include future book signing events and public relations efforts.
