Wednesday, March 02, 2011 - ‘Celebration of Smiles’ Charity Motorcycle Ride Prepares to Head out on the Highway

Proceeds benefit Broward Health Chris Evert Children’s Hospital

Attention all big bike riders, get your motors runnin’ for the Fourth Annual Big Bike Riders Children’s Foundation ‘Celebration of Smiles’ Charity Motorcycle Ride. Grand Marshalls Glen Rice, NBA All-Star, and U. S. Rep. Allen West (R-Fla), will kick start the event on Sunday, March 20, at Broward General Medical Center.

Proceeds from the ‘Celebration of Smiles’ ride will go toward the expansion and renovation of the Chris Evert Children’s Hospital.  Each year the number of riders increases and upwards of 1,000 motorcycle enthusiasts are expected to participate in the 59-mile ride. The ride, escorted by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, finishes at Bru’s Room Sports Grill in Coral Springs.

“This is a terrific event to benefit pediatric patients,” said Ron Catronio, chairman and executive director of the Big Bike Riders Children’s Foundation.  “We have the opportunity to raise money for the kids while enjoying being out on our bikes, roaring down the highway with no stops, meeting other bikers, and finishing it off with food, music and entertainment.”

Pre-event/registration activities at Broward General will include a free breakfast, music, vendors, and presentations by city and hospital officials.  Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the ride starts at 10 a.m.  Cost is $20 per person and $30 for two-up (two people on a bike).  Finish line festivities will include food, live bands, a vendor mall, motorcycle drill team performances, stunt performances, and bike-builder displays.
