Pediatric Trauma

Trauma Nurse with Pediatric PatientChris Evert Children’s Hospital is one of only two Level 1 trauma centers in Broward County that specialize in pediatric care.  The trauma center is part of our dedicated 12-bed pediatric emergency unit that is staffed by surgeons, pediatric emergency nurses, respiratory therapists, x-ray technicians and anesthesiologists who work around the clock to evaluate and treat the most critically ill or injured patients.

The trauma center has a helipad to receive patients by MEDEVAC. Patients seriously injured in remote areas are brought by helicopter to our trauma center for immediate care.  We have the newest innovative technology, including CT scanners inside the trauma bay, to allow easier access and quicker results 24 hours a day. Its practical location also keeps children in the comfort of the pediatric area. Our multidisciplinary trauma team works together to successfully stabilize, rehabilitate and transfer patients into their home environment.

As a Level I unit, our trauma center is a leader in trauma education and injury prevention. We offer tutorials for injury protection, drowning prevention, and car and bicycle safety courses as well as other educational outreach programs.
