Broward Health offers a full line of pediatric care. We can help your family through typical growing pains like late-night fever spikes, sports injuries and routine tonsillectomies. We also specialize in serious care, such as pediatric cancer, sickle cell and palliative care. Broward Health operates one of only three trauma centers in all of South Florida. 24-Hour Pediatric Emergency Care
Emergency medicine just for kids is always available at Chris Evert Children's Hospital and Broward Health Coral Springs. Both facilities are equipped to handle children's emergencies, and have highly specialized pediatricians and pediatric nurses available 24 hours a day.
The board-certified physicians at our Urgent Care Center at Broward Health Weston are here to help when your child needs care quickly, but it’s not quite an emergency. We help kids – and parents – feel better when you can’t wait to see your regular doctor for things like cuts, sprains, fevers, sore throats, coughs and minor allergic reactions. Urgent Care is open seven days a week; no appointment needed! Just remember to bring your photo ID and insurance card.

Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU) and Pediatric Acute Care
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Chris Evert Children's Hospital and the Pediatric Acute Care Unit at Broward Health Coral Springs care for children who are critically ill or injured. Our multidisciplinary teams include critical care specialists and pediatric intensivists - specially trained pediatricians who have an additional three years of training in pediatric intensive care.
Broward Health PICUs provide around-the-clock care for children ages 0-18 years, treating things like:
- Complicated fractures
- Life-threatening illnesses and injuries, such as meningitis and pneumonia
- Near drowning
- Neurological impairment
- Post-operative care for complex surgeries
- Respiratory distress or failure
- Other conditions that need specialized care
The Chris Evert Children's Hospital houses the 12-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), which offers the newest, most innovative technology for the highest level of pediatric care in South Florida.
The Pediatric Acute Care Unit at Broward Health Coral Springs is just steps away from the Pediatric Unit, giving patients quick access to a higher level of care if needed.
Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU)
Most babies are born healthy and on time. But when complications arise, NICUs at Chris Evert Children's Hospital and Broward Health Coral Springs provide the highest level of care for infants who are critically ill, premature or have special needs.

The NICU at Chris Evert Children's Hospital has both Level II and Level III beds available. More than 100 staff members work around the clock to care for our tiniest patients. It is a Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center (RPICC), part of Florida’s Children’s Medical Services (CMS) that works to improve perinatal care and pregnancy outcomes, including the quality of life from the moment of birth.
Broward Health Coral Springs' 10-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized care to sick or premature newborns who:
- Have low birth weight
- Are born to mothers with pre-existing medical conditions
- Are born to mothers who develop unexpected medical complications during delivery
Broward Health Coral Spring' High-Risk Clinic monitors neonatal babies after discharge to identify any delays early on and make appropriate referrals for intervention.
Pediatric Hematology and Oncology
Childhood cancer begins and develops differently than adult cancer. Broward Health's Pediatric Hematology and Oncology program has pediatric oncologists who specifically treat children ages 0-18 years who have been diagnosed with cancer and blood disorders like hemophilia. Pediatric Hematology and Oncology is offered as part of our comprehensive care center at Broward Health Medical Center and Chris Evert Children's Hospital
Level I Trauma Care
The most critical accidents and injuries need specialized trauma care. Chris Evert Children's Hospital is one of only two Level I trauma centers in Broward County that specializes in pediatric care. Broward Health's Pediatric Trauma Center at Chris Evert Children's Hospital:
- Is part of the pediatric emergency unit staffed by surgeons, pediatric emergency nurses, respiratory therapists, X-ray technicians and anesthesiologists
- Has a helipad for children who arrive by MEDEVAC helicopter
- Has innovative equipment, like CT scanners in the trauma bay, for quicker results 24 hours a day
- Is a leader in trauma education and injury prevention with tutorials, safety courses and other outreach programs

Children's Diagnostic & Treatment Center
Broward Health's Children's Diagnostic & Treatment Center (CDTC) is dedicated to serving children with special healthcare needs. Our pediatric outpatient facility provides medical, social, and other support services for children and youth with high risk or chronic medical problems, and follow-up for all RPICC patients. CDTC is a nationally recognized "Center of Excellence" offering family-centered, culturally sensitive medical care and social work services in Broward County.
