Dr. Michael T. Reilly is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who, throughout his career, has devoted himself to refining – and redefining – his skills in sports medicine, arthroscopic and joint replacement surgery. He took those skills to a higher level with his recent certification in sports medicine by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. And, with that new designation Dr. Reilly joins a cadre of highly skilled specialists sought out for their proven excellence in the field.
Dr. Reilly developed interest in orthopaedics at an early age after experiencing several of his own athletic injuries. These experiences fueled his passion for helping others to overcome sports injuries and problems related to joint arthritis.
Following his premedical education at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with honors, he went on to medical school. His postgraduate work includes an internship at the University of Utah and orthopaedic residency at the University of Miami. Dr. Reilly was selected from hundreds of applicants for advanced postgraduate training as a Fellow with the renowned Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama, where he refined his skills in sports medicine, arthroscopic and joint replacement surgery.
In 1989, Dr. Reilly established his orthopaedic practice in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He has successfully treated thousands of patients, establishing himself as an expert in arthroscopic and joint replacement surgery of the knee, shoulder, and hip. Although Dr. Reilly developed and refined his surgical skills to support the athletic and arthritic arena, his orthopaedic expertise has become known for state of the art care and treatment of people in all walks of life.
His talent is well publicized. South Florida Magazine recognized him as Top Orthopedic Surgeon in South Florida in 2003. Miami Metro’s October 2000 edition listed him as one of the area’s “Top Docs”. He was designated a “2005, 2006, and 2007 Distinguished Physician” by the Florida Medical Association. He was selected by Castle Connolly Guide as one of South Florida’s Top Doctors, Gold Coast Magazine in May 2006. His resume includes membership to prestigious professional organizations: American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, American Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Reilly serves as a National Team Physician for the United States Swimming Team. He was selected as a physician for the United States Olympic Team.
The most rewarding part of Dr. Reilly’s orthopaedic practice is the opportunity to relate to the professional and recreational competitive athletes, as well as injured workers, homemakers, non-athletes, and senior citizens.
