Hector Rodriguez-Cortes, M.D., earned his BA in biology at the University of Puerto Rico, and his MD at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. After graduating, he completed his residency in pediatrics at the University Children’s Hospital in Puerto Rico. His fellowship in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology was conducted at the Children’s Medical Center of Dallas in Texas. Dr. Rodriguez-Cortes is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatrics Hematology and Oncology.
He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology as well as a principal investigator in the Children’s Oncology Group, a National Cancer Institute sponsored clinical trial group, dedicated to curing and controlling cancer in children and adolescents. In addition, Dr. Rodriguez-Cortes’ interest also includes sickle cell disease and homeostasis disorders.
Dr. Rodriguez-Cortes has been actively involved in developing educational conference series for healthcare providers in the area of sickle cell disease and oncology. He also has been involved in promoting the awareness of childhood cancer in the community with many recognized children’s foundations. He currently is a board member and Chairman of the Patient Services Committee at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Southern Florida. Dr. Rodriguez-Cortes has been also actively involved in the development of the Barbara Ziegler Pediatric Palliative Care Program at Chris Evert Children’s Hospital.
