Joel Gellman, M.D., FACC, is a cardiologist with The Heart Center of Excellence with special interests in the treatment of advanced heart disease and cardiac imaging. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology. In addition, he recently became a Diplomate of the American Board of Medicine in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation, the first physician in Broward County and one of the first in State of Florida to achieve this.
Dr. Gellman received his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed Internal Medicine training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, a fellowship in Cardiovascular Research at Yale University in New Haven, CT, and a Clinical Cardiology Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University and Hospital in Baltimore, MD.
Prior to joining The Heart Center of Excellence, Dr. Gellman was a partner with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Heart Group. This was preceded by an Assistant Professorship at the University of Maryland, where he served as the Assistant Chief of Cardiology at the Baltimore Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Dr. Gellman is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is a member of the American Heart Association Council on Clinical Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography, and the Broward County Medical Association.
Dr. Gellman is the recipient of two prestigious awards from the American College of Cardiology, the Merck Research Award and Centocor Career Development Award. He is actively involved in clinical research. He has been funded to conduct original research, delivered papers at national and international meetings and authored publications in peer reviewed journals.
