  • Ernesto Blanco, MD, is a pediatric endocrinologist at Chris Evert Children's Hospital and Broward Health Medical Center.  Prior to joining Broward Health in 2004, he completed his residency in pediatrics in 2001 and earned a fellowship in endocrinology at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook.
    Dr. Blanco received his medical degree from Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in Bayamon, Puerto Rico in 1997. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Miami.  

    Research topics include the effectiveness of Glucowatch biographer in cystic fibrosis patients with cystic fibrosis related diabetes mellitus (Stony Brook University Hospital); the use of Subcutaneous DDAVP in infants with central diabetes insipidus (published in the Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology & Metabolism); and a retrospective clinical study on the use of bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage in determining the etiology of refractory wheezing in infants at Stony Brook University Hospital.

    Since 2005, he has served as the medical director at Camp Coral Kids, the only day camp in South Florida for children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, run by Broward Health Coral Springs.

    He is also an active member of the Children's Advisory Council Committee at Chris Evert Children's Hospital in Broward Health Medical Center.

    Dr. Blanco is married with five children.

    He is fluent in Spanish.
