A Message from a NICU Mom
"There was a time when I didn't know what a Level III NICU was, but now I do. I want to share my experience with you, hoping it will create awareness for this amazing place that impacts the lives of so many beautiful and tiny babies each day.
I first met Dr. Johny Tryzmel while I was in labor. Since my daughter, Brooke, was born premature, she was brought to the NICU. She had been there for two weeks when I noticed she wasn't as responsive as she had been on previous days.
I was beside myself knowing that something wasn't right, but not fully knowing what was wrong.
Dr. Tryzmel was getting ready to leave for the day, but he saw me crying and asked me what was wrong. Like any mother would do in my situation, I asked him to look at Brooke.
Dr. Tryzmel said Brooke was probably lethargic because her blood work showed low levels of red blood cells, but he said to me, "If there is one thing I have learned it's that mom knows best."
Dr. Tryzmel started Brooke on antibiotics that ultimately saved her life.
Shortly after, Brooke was diagnosed with the most aggressive form of E. coli and those antibiotics prescribed by Dr. Tryzmel truly saved my daughter's life. For that we are eternally grateful.
Ten years have passed and Brooke is a beautiful, smart and healthy little girl. My experience in the NICU makes me realize each day how differently my situation could have been without the experts at Salah Foundation Children's Hospital working to save her life.
I wasn't planning to deliver Brooke at this hospital, but now I feel so strongly that there is no place else I would want to deliver other than Salah Foundation Children's Hospital."
