Heather Marchese

A First Birth Worthy of an Encore

When Heather Marchese arrived at Broward Health Coral Springs to give birth to her son, it was her first experience as a hospital patient.

"It was all new to me," said Heather, 31, a City of Sunrise resident and middle school teacher. "My husband and I were impressed by the care we received from start to finish."

With her baby in breach position, Heather was scheduled to have a caesarean section. She was nervous about being a patient and was afraid of needles, but one thing she appreciated was having the nurses carefully explain every procedure.

"I knew exactly what to expect, so that I could prepare for it," Heather said.

In the operating room, no detail was overlooked to ensure Heather and her husband, Michael, were comfortable as they welcomed their first child, James Thomas.

"Right before the procedure, one of the nurses asked me what kind of music I listened to," Heather said. "When I first heard my baby cry, my favorite singer Luke Bryan was playing in the background. It was an awesome memory that will last forever."

After James Thomas arrived, the postpartum care Heather received was also excellent. "The following day, our nurse was kind, gentle and cared for us like a mother," she said. "She anticipated my needs before I even had to ask for things, like baby supplies and pain medicine. She also took the time to educate us and went the extra mile to make sure we were okay."

As Heather and Michael settle into parenthood, they know exactly where they'll be when it's time to bring their next child into the world.

"My husband and I are already talking about coming back to Broward Health Coral Springs. If our next baby is also a C-section, I'd like to schedule it so we have the very same nurses who took care of us," she said. "They were phenomenal and very accommodating. It was just great patient care."
