Jan Tansey, 76, has a special name for the group of physical therapists at Broward Health Imperial Point (BHIP): Team Terrific. After undergoing a successful knee replacement surgery, she found a second family with the physical therapy team at BHIP.
Tansey, an energetic, retired French teacher, followed her friend's advice to undergo her operation at Broward Health and was later prescribed physical therapy sessions to aid in her recovery. After six weeks of therapy she was up and moving and almost six months later she got back to one of her favorite past times as she boarded a cruise for New Year's.
"It's all thanks to Team Terrific," Tansey said when asked about her wonderful recovery.
With her therapy sessions now over, she continues to visit the Wellness Center every morning as part of her workout routine. Team Terrific is there to give her pointers and to oversee her exercises. For Tansey, they have become like "one big family."
Tansey advises anyone considering a joint replacement procedure to follow the doctor's instructions and to continue working out after therapy. "If you stay at home, life gets in the way and you don't stick to your recovery," Tansey said.
Team Terrific also offers a class for anyone considering any form of joint replacement surgery. The class, presented by the Broward Health Imperial Point joint replacement staff, provides education on the procedure and addresses questions. Everyone is welcome to attend, even if a surgery has not been scheduled.
