Feeling Normal After Great Care

As a pediatric cardiologist, Jeffrey Skimming is well-educated in heart health. He has an active lifestyle that includes workouts at the gym. That’s where Jeffrey was when he had a heart attack.

It’s not unusual for heart attack patients to be unable to recall all the details leading up to the medical emergency. The last thing Jeffrey recalls is that he was headed to the gym. He was later told that he went into cardiac arrest while working out on an elliptical machine. Fortunately, a number of lifesaving things fell into place for Jeffrey. His girlfriend who was at the gym with him immediately performed CPR until Pompano Beach Fire Rescue arrived and took over.

Jeffrey was transported to Broward Health where he underwent a cardiac catheterization performed by Andre Landau, M.D., interventional cardiologist.  “All three of the major arteries that surround the heart muscle had severe blockage of 80 to 100 percent,” said Landau. “He underwent bypass surgery and made a great recovery and was home within a week or so,” he said.

“I think as a result of the rapid response and great care that I got here has resulted in me feeling basically pretty normal now,” Jeffrey said.
