The Dedication of a Dad

More than two decades later, the father and daughter are still at the hospital where they now dedicate their lives to serving others.

Matt, 45, is the senior service mechanic at Broward Health Coral Springs, and Maiah, 23, is a registered nurse in the medical-surgical unit.

Over the years, Matt has been by his daughter’s side for all the important moments – her first days in the hospital’s NICU, encouraging her through difficult physical therapy sessions for Erb’s palsy, and cheering her on during her soccer games.

Today, their bond remains strong. Despite their busy schedules, they still find time to meet up for coffee or lunch at the hospital.

“Being a dad is one of my greatest gifts,” said Matt, who also has a 17-year-old son.

Matt’s advice to new dads? “Enjoy every moment, it goes so fast,” he said. “Remember, what you put in is what you get out. There is no greater joy than seeing your kid succeed in life.”
