Broward Health Celebrates Women’s Equality Day

Women's Equality Day, which is Aug. 26, commemorates the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that granted women the right to vote. In observance of this day, women leaders from across Broward Health reflect on what Women's Equality Day means to them.

Amy Anderson, MBA, BSN, RN

Amy Anderson serves as regional director of emergency and trauma, dialysis, Pathway to Excellence, and clinical education at Broward Health Medical Center.
Throughout her career, she has patterned her leadership style after female influencers who have served as her coaches and mentors, both personally and professionally.
On Woman's Equality Day, Anderson is inspired to celebrate and support other women.
"Clap for your female friends," she said. "We are stronger together no matter what challenges we may face."

Chivone Hylton, RN, BSN, CNML

Chivone Hylton is the regional manager of Broward Health Imperial Point's Emergency Department. She's been at Broward Health for three years.
For Hylton, Women's Equality Day is a chance to celebrate a woman's right to vote. "As a woman, it is important for me to have the right to be involved in legislation that impacts us as a whole."

Emily Hoffman, Pharm.D., BCCCP

Emily Hoffman serves as a clinical coordinator at Broward Health Coral Springs' pharmacy. She's been part of Broward Health for 14 years.
Women's Equality Day is especially meaningful to Hoffman because at one point in history, her great-grandmother didn't have the right to vote or the ability to support laws to improve her own well-being and community.

Sylvia Jones, DNP, MSN, ARNP, RNC-MM

Dr. Sylvia Jones is Broward Health's Nurse Residency Program Manager. She's been part of Broward Health for the past six years.
On Women's Equality Day, Dr. Jones is inspired by a feeling of hope.
"So many women have fought for equality and that inspires me to continue the fight so that their suffering won't be wasted in vain," she said.

Nadia Graham

Nadia Graham is the director of the Comprehensive Family AIDS Program at Children's Diagnostic & Treatment Center.
She's been with Broward Health for 21 years.
On Women's Equality Day, Graham reflects on the many roadblocks women have faced to casting their votes, including lack of transportation, little access to childcare and low literacy.
"On this day, we celebrate women who have overcome these obstacles, as well as work toward easier access for all women to vote," Graham said.

Charese Crawford, MSN, RN

Charese Crawford, MSN, RN, is manager of clinical education at Broward Health North. She's been with Broward Health for 23 years.
On Women's Equality Day, Crawford reflects on the work that still needs to be done to ensure equality for all.
"The fact that we’re talking about women’s equality means that there are still disparities and that we have a long way to go to ensure equality for all," she said.
