Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Broward Health honored its Emergency Department nurses across the system October 9 - 15 during Emergency Nurses Week.

“It takes great skill and dedication to provide the level of care our Emergency Department nurses give some of our most critically injured and sick patients,” said James Roach, D.O., Broward Health chief of emergency medicine and chief medical officer of Broward Health Medical Center. “We’re so thankful that they rise to the challenge day after day for our patients. Their commitment to providing exceptional care is truly commendable.”

The highlight of Broward Health North’s celebrations was a special tribute held on Oct. 11 and attended by Broward Sheriff’s Office, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and David Santucci, city manager of Deerfield Beach.

Coral Springs Mayor Scott J. Brook and City Manager Frank Babinec presented a proclamation honoring Broward Health Coral Springs Emergency Department nurses at a recognition event held on Oct. 12, and the hospital provided treats and experiences throughout the week.

Broward Health Medical Center and Broward Health Imperial Point Emergency Department nurses were recognized by hospital leadership and received celebratory meals, activities and surprises in thanks for their service.

Every year, Broward Health cares for more than 200,000 patients in its Emergency Departments. Broward Health is home to two trauma centers, including one which recently was verified as a Level I trauma center by the American College of Surgeons. The Fort Lauderdale-based health system has four Emergency Departments and numerous recognitions for stroke care, heart attack and kidney failure by organizations such as American Heart Association and U.S. News & World Report.

"Emergency Nurses Week gives us an opportunity to pause and thank our dedicated and selfless nurses,” said Maryanne Usher, manager of emergency and trauma services at Broward Health Medical Center. “This year’s celebrations are even more poignant for our emergency nurses who weathered COVID and came out stronger.”
