Friday, January 21, 2005 - Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center Receives Accreditation
Fort Lauderdale, FL – The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at Imperial Point Medical Center has been recognized and accredited through the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) Clinical Hyperbaric Facility Accreditation Program. Accreditation is based on the evaluation of 24 areas including administration, patient care and education, and infection control. The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine is one of only 42 centers that have achieved accreditation.

The society’s purpose is to improve the scientific basis of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, promote sound treatment protocols and standards of practice, and provide accreditation while providing information to protect the health of sport, military and commercial divers. Most members of this organization are diving or hyperbaric scientists and physicians though associate members include nurses, technicians, respiratory therapists and others who work in the field of diving and hyperbaric medicine.

The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at Imperial Point Medical Center is dedicated to the treatment of difficult, non-healing wounds such as diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers and traumatic wounds. The center, whose entire nursing staff is certified in wound management, presently is healing wounds two weeks faster than national averages. Program Director Jim Wilcox is a board certified wound specialist, a credential not often achieved by a registered nurse.

“Our team is highly credentialed and provides excellent customer service to our patients,” states Jim Wilcox, RN, BSN, ACHRN, CWCN, CWS, FCN. “This means less pain, less time and less expense for the patient in recovering from their wound.”

Dottie Mancini, CEO of Imperial Point Medical Center adds, “The wound care team provides outstanding care to our community…you will not find a more qualified or compassionate staff anywhere.”
