Meet Andrew Sinclair

What is your name and title?
Andrew Sinclair, Regional Manager, Patient Experience/Communications

How long have you worked at Broward Health?
5 years

Describe your typical work day.
My day usually starts with rounding on our patients at Broward Health North. I am a patient advocate and enjoying talking with patients to ensure they understand what is occurring with their care. I am able to talk with patients and understand what brought them to the hospital, reassure them, and help address any comfort needs they may have. I continually work with my team to improve and enhance the patient experience at Broward Health through customer service training, communication and scripting.

What motivates you to come to work each day?
Our patients and my team. Every day I am excited to come to work and be part of a team that works tirelessly to improve the lives of our patients and communities.

How does your job contribute to Broward Health's mission of delivering quality, compassionate care?
I am part of a team that works throughout our organization to give a voice to the patient. We do not think as clinicians but rather we view healthcare through eyes of a patient.

Patients’ needs are constantly changing, and by interacting with patients daily, we are able to anticipate these needs to ensure they have the resources necessary to help them stay healthy. Having an illness is a stressful time for anyone, especially when you are in a hospital. My team and I are here to assist patients by helping them communicate to ensure all their health questions are answered and addressed.

What advice would you give to a new employee just starting their career in healthcare?
To always ask questions. No matter what you have learned, healthcare is always evolving, and you must have an open mind to be willing to change and adapt to meet have the needs of the changing environment. Additionally, always put yourself in the patient’s shoes and treat them as if they were your own family member.

How do you like to relax?
I like to run and either watch or play sports.

What are you most proud of personally or professionally?
Personally, I am proud of my family. I would not be where I am today without them.
Professionally I am proud to be a part of a dynamic team that is a leader in the healthcare industry. Every member of the Broward Health organization cares for our patients and gives everything they have in order to ensure our patients are provided with the highest quality of care.

What is on your music playlist?
A little bit of everything. If it has a catchy beat you will probably see it in my playlist.

If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, alive or dead, who would it be and why
My parents. They have always been my role models and they have always given me guidance. From an early age they instilled in me the values of hard work and empathy. The ability to treat others as you wish to be treated and always to stay positive no matter what the circumstances. They are responsible for helping me become the person I am today. To thank them and show them that I listened to all their teachings, even if sometimes it did not seem as though I was, is why I would choose to have dinner with them.
